The New York Knicks and Brooklyn Nets rivalry is fun for the fans but what makes it even better is that the players are taking it serious. It seems like these two teams genuinely don’t like each other, and as a fan you have to love that. We’re in the era where all the players are friends and we really don’t see that many rivalries. Twitter is a big way you can tell players like each other. By congratulating and interacting with each other, players for the most part respect each other after big games or milestones.

J.R. Smith didn’t get the memo.

After beating the Knicks in the Garden 88-85 on Martin Luther King Day, Nets forward/national punch line Kris Humphries had some fun words for the Knick faithful. He tweeted “Big game tonight! The Garden got really quiet on the way out! #Brooklyn”

Clearly Humphries didn’t mean to start a battle or cause an uprising, but Smith, the Knicks entertaining shooting guard, had some words of his own for Humphries.

Smith replied to Humphries trash talk with a shot to Humphries’ highly publicized divorce/marriage/affair/whatever you want to call it with Kim Kardashian. As you might know, the beautiful reality star married Humphries for a whopping total of 72 days. She then filed for divorce and started dating music megastar Kanye West, whom now she is having a baby with. Drama for your mama, I know I know.

Smith kindly tweeted “Wasn’t quiet when Kanye tore it down last month!” As of noon on January 22nd, this tweet had nearly 52,000 retweets and 20,000 favorites. Safe to say Smith’s response was well heard around the sports world. I personally love all the trash talk; it makes it fun and shows us that athletes are just like us when we play. Nothing like a little trash talk on and off the court to keep things interesting.

I don’t think his Kanye West-Kim Kardashian joke was out of line at all. It’s the unwritten rule that you don’t talk about wives and children on and off the court, but Humphries and Kardashian aren’t family. I honestly don’t know what to label them. All I know is that a 72-day marriage that had reality TV show cameras following you doesn’t fall in the same category as an actual marriage.

Smith keep doing what you’re doing, but let’s start winning some games first. Humphries and the Nets are now only one game behind you in the Atlantic Division.

Kanye can’t help you there.
