Usually when you are named NBA Defensive Player of the Year, a spot of the NBA All-Defensive First team is all but guaranteed.

Unless your name is Tyson Chandler.

Chandler was snubbed from first team honors and instead had to settle for a spot on the NBA’s All-Defensive Second Team.

The entire first team is comprised of the Clippers’ franchise point guard Chris Paul, Grizzlies’ Tony Allen, Heat’s Lebron James, Thunder’s Serge Ibaka at forward and Dwight Howard of the Magic at center.

Chandler joins an All-Defensive second team with Boston’s point guard, Rajon Rondo and forward Kevin Garnett, the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant at shooting  guard and Chicago Bulls’ Luol Deng at small forward.

While the defensive teams are chosen by NBA coaches, the NBA Defensive Player of the year is selected by 124 U.S. and Canadian sportswriters and broadcasters.

Knicks free agent guard Jeremy Lin seems just as confused as I do, when he tweeted.

Chandler received 13 first place votes to go along with 10 second place votes. What’s bizarre is six NBA coaches didn’t give Chandler either a first or second place vote (NBA coaches can’t vote for their own players).

Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert finished with 13 points in the voting, receiving four first place votes, finishing only four points away from making the second team.

No other Knicks players received votes.
