Chicago Bulls Weekly Roundup
(0-3) L 108-132 A matchup billed as the meeting of two great point guards did not fail in that regard.  Unfortunately Williams was able to outduel Rose, and the rest of the Jazz were able to murder the rest of the Bulls.  Although Rose had 24 points, 4 rebound and 13 assists, it wasn’t even close [...]
Just call them the comeback kids
The Denver Nuggets are on the verge of going undefeated on their most recent four-game road trip and the most interesting part of it was how bad Denver has played to start each game. The Nuggets were facing deficits in each contest, trailing Minnesota 53-48 at halftime and 60-52 early in the third quarter. They were [...]
Blazers 109, Raptors 98 Re-Thoughts
You know how we talk about getting caught up with running teams like the Warriors and Knicks, how in some cases it can become painfully obvious that the Blazers are losing simply by being out of their comfort zone and away from the things they do best? That’s what happened for much of Sunday night’s [...]
Stronger Effort, Same Result
On Sunday evening the Toronto Raptors once again showed  their shortfalls on the defensive end: poor perimeter coverage, weak boarding ability. Luckily, the end result was nowhere near as ugly as it was against both the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors. The final this time, a 109-98 loss to the impressive Portland Trail Blazers, with the Raptors remaining [...]
Charlotte Snaps Orlando’s Winning Streak
For the fourth time this season, the Charlotte Bobcats gave the Orlando Magic all they could handle. But on Sunday, unlike the first three games, the Bobcats outplayed the Magic down the stretch and came away with a 96-89 victory. Dwight Howard, who was one of three Magic players to score at least 20 points, [...]
Dwight Howard Becomes Orlando’s Second All-Time Leading Scorer
It wasn’t all bad for Dwight Howard and the Magic on Sunday night. Howard became the franchise’s second all-time leading scorer, passing Tracy McGrady (8, 298 points) in the third quarter of Sunday night’s 96-89 loss to the Bobcats. Howard, who finished the game with 27 points, now has 8,309 points in his career. Nick [...]
Cavs Take It To Boston…Again
What a great day to be an Ohio sports fan, huh?  Evan Turner and the Buckeyes ran the Golden Gophers out of Indianapolis.  And our beloved Cavaliers chased the mangy Celtics out of Cleveland. From the start, it really seemed like the Celtics were taking the Joshua Clottey – just cover your face and try not [...]
Game #66 Recap: Sweep
It has been a long time that the Bucks have swept the Pacers for the season. Well, today, it finally happened. The score was 98-94. Yep. The Pacers got swept by Milwaukee. The Bucks. I can’t believe that. They should have got at least just one win against them this season. Nope. It didn’t happen. Damn. [...]
Tonight is Winning Time on ESPN!
The 30 On 30 series will be premiering the Reggie Miller/Knicks documentary tonight at 9 (Eastern time) on ESPN.  If you miss it, it’ll be on ESPN2 a few hours later, and well, at all sorts of hours and channels forever afterward.  It looks pretty darn good, and for you young fans who’ve gotten used to seeing your Knicks always lose — don’t worry, the winning time refers to Indiana not New York. As they describe it on the film’s site: Reggie Miller gave New York the finger. The whole city. The 6′7″ wiry shooting guard of the Indiana Pacers tortured [...]
Matt Barnes Out Sunday Night With a Sprained Left Toe
The Orlando Magic got a bit of bad news before Sunday’s game with the Charlotte Bobcats. Matt Barnes injured his left big toe and will be inactive for Sunday’s game. He is listed as day-to-day. Mickael Pietrus will start in his place. (Andrew Melnick is Howard the Dunk’s lead blogger and a contributor at NFL Mocks [...]
Raptors at Blazers – Game Preview
The Toronto Raptors continue their quest for a single road victory on this trip tonight in Portland when they square off against the Blazers. For the Raptors -losers of 4 in a row -they are in desperate need of a W.  The team, 2-8 in their last 10 has fallen from 5th in the East to [...]
A Good Day
Well, today seems to be a good day for Pacers fans. I say there is going to be a win tonight vs. the Bucks. I don’t think Indy will get their season swept by this team. No, they won’t. It just can’t happen. The last matchup between these two that ended the series was magical. [...]
Knicks Snap Mavericks 13 Game Win Streak In Dallas
If you had told me going into Dallas the Knicks would be up 20 in the 4th I would have called you a fool. Well, the Knicks did just that and absolutely throttled the Mavs. The Knicks won 128-94 in a dominating effort led by Bill Walker and Tony Douglas. Yes, Douglas was sensational last night along with Walker both adding 20+ points and shot the ball extremely well. Sergio did not even see the court last night, and in a surprise lineup change Duhon was inserted back into the rotation. The Knicks shot the ball extremely well, and the Mavs [...]

Atlanta Hawks (112) Detroit Pistons (99) Game Recap
Tonight the Atlanta Hawks came out and looked like a focused and determined team that was headed into the playoffs playing their best basketball. They completely dominated the Detroit Pistons taking a 69-41 lead into half time. Two things I have been clamoring for are defensive pressure and ball movement. I got both tonight. They [...]
Orlando Magic News & Notes: Magic Beat Wizards, Must Go Right Back To Work Against Bobcats (Now With Larry Hughes)
The Orlando Magic rallied from an early 15-point deficit and defeated the Washington Wizards 109-95 Saturday night. The Magic will have to turn right around and take on the Charlotte Bobcats on Sunday night. You can read a preview of that game here. Magic Head Coach Stan Van Gundy thinks that this will be a tough [...]
Charlotte Bobcats @ Orlando Magic
Update: Matt Barnes is inactive with a sprained left big toe. The Orlando Magic, fresh off a victory over the Washington Wizards on Saturday night, will have to go right back to work on Sunday night when they return home to host the Charlotte Bobcats. The Magic have now won eight straight games, which is an [...]

Pathetic Raptors Hit New Low
Will the Toronto Raptors ever win again this season?  Unfortunately at this stage that is a question I do not feel too confident in answering yes to.  Saturday night marked the 4th loss in a row for a Raptors squad that looks less inspired than the group of wall-huggers at a boy-girl party. The end result? [...]
Magic Overcome Poor Start, Beat Wizards 109-95
After being dominated early on and falling behind 37-23 in the second quarter, the Magic went on a 23-4 run to take the lead. Orlando dominated the second quarter, outscoring the Wizards 41-22 in the period to take a six-point halftime lead. The Magic added to their lead in the third quarter and the Magic [...]
Despite Memphis’ Improvement, The Grizzlies Don’t Seem To Be Feeling Gay
As usually happens whenever the Knicks play a team with a big upcoming free agent, that player gets salt and peppered with questions about joining us.  Last night we went up against the Memphis Grizzlies, so it was Rudy Gay’s turn in the spotlight.  He doesn’t sound like someone who wants to stay in Memphis, while owner Michael Heisley is already blaming fans for not being able to pay him.  From a Newsday article: Forbes magazine recently listed Memphis as the second-most miserable city in the U.S. So you can understand why pending restricted free agent Rudy Gay had to pause [...]
Celtics 1st Round Playoff Matchup – Daily Poll
Yesterdays Poll Results: “Fans should have been booing the Celtics because they were not giving their maximum effort.” I’m not so sure that realistically any team outside of the top 4 in the east will really give the Celtics any kind of trouble in the playoffs. Also, however, there is history, and historically the Celtics have [...]
Mickael Pietrus Will Be Available Saturday Night Against Washington
After missing Thursday’s game with a strained neck, Mickael Pietrus will be available on Saturday night. The Magic (46-20) will recover the services of Mickael Pietrus, who missed Thursday’s game against the Chicago Bulls with a strained neck muscle, giving them an extra body with which to spread the playing time. Tania Ganguli has that story here. (Andrew [...]
Orlando Magic News & Notes: Magic Look For Eighth Straight Win Vs Wizards
The Orlando Magic will take on the Washington Wizards on Saturday night. The Magic, who have won seven straight games, are 0-2 against Washington this season. You can read more about that game here. The Wizards will be playing their third game in three days. “Whew. It’s crazy,” Wizards guard Nick Young told reporters. “I’ve seen everything [...]
Orlando Magic @ Washington Wizards
The Orlando Magic are the Eastern Conferenced’s hottest team. They will attempt to win their eighth straight game when they travel to Washington D.C. to take on the Wizards on Saturday night. The Wizards enter the game having lost six in a row and will be playing for the third staight day. They dropped the [...]
Game #65 Recap: The Strike of the Boston Tea Party
The Indiana Pacers got struck by Boston. And I expected a loss anyways, especially when it is at the Garden. Though there has been some struggles for Boston for the past few weeks, they got the Pacers here. 122-103 was the score, my friends. Not fun when you’re Pacers fan. This game was so bad [...]
Kirk Hinrich, What Has Gotten Into You?
Kirk Hinrich loses his cool and gets 2 technicals, which gets him ejected from the game against the Miami Heat last night. I love the call on the first video here: “Kirk Hinrich, what has gotten into you?”. The second video is the NBA highlight package. Check out the big night by James Johnson, who [...]

Knicks Fall To Grizzlies Again 119-112
Knicks lost another road game in Memphis tonight, with the same story found in all Knicks losses. We shot 29% from 3 and dug ourselves an early hole and were down as many as 29 at one point. One positive note, however, was Bill Walker and leading the 4th quarter charge he put on and brought the Knicks within in 5 in what would have been a miraculous comeback. Walker has certainly made a name for himself since being dealt here and has in my mind earned a spot on next year’s squad. Gallinari continued his horrid shooting slump tonight shooting [...]
Blazers 110, Kings 94 Re-Thoughts
This one doesn’t need much. It doesn’t need an extensive recap, it doesn’t need to be picked apart and it certainly doesn’t need any video analysis. The Blazers weren’t perfect, but the Kings didn’t have it in them to take advantage of Portland’s mistakes like they did on Tuesday. And it was good enough. The Blazers [...]
Sorry Pacers, You Chose The Wrong Night To Face The Celtics
Mike Gorman said it best at the end of the game against the Grizzlies. He said that it was either a good thing for the Pacers that they would be playing the Celtics on Friday night, or it would be their worst nightmare. It ended up being the nightmare, as the Celtics pounded the crap [...]
Despite Sloppy Performance, Cavs Slide Past 76ers
There’s a reason the 76ers are one of the worst teams in the NBA.  And the Cavaliers used that to their advantage on Friday night. Cleveland launched 31 three-point attempts, missed nine free throws and were outscored 66-40 in the paint but still managed to come away with a 100-95 victory.  And, surprisingly enough, I was [...]
Raptors at Warriors – Game Preview
The Raptors western road trip continues on Saturday night, when the boys from Toronto make a stop in Golden State to take on the consistently battered and bruised Warriors. For the Raptors the game marks the 3rd of the trip, with both of the first two contributing to the team’s loss column. As we hit the stretch-run of [...]
Sorry for Absence
Unfortunately I will not be back until after the 1st of April. I have a lot on my plate right now (namely work and testing for a promotion) so I am taking a break.
What Free Agents Could Realistically Come To NYC? Part III
In Part I we talked about what each of the teams competing for free agents had to offer.  In Part II, we went over what factors each of the Big Three (LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh) would contemplate.  Now we continue onto the other big-name free agents and their likely mindsets. Joe Johnson – Atlanta Hawks As we discussed after the recent Knicks/Hawks game, JJ has a nice relationship with Coach Mike D’Antoni from their time together in Phoenix, plus the Knicks have somehow managed to look competitive this year in the three games he played against us.  When JJ [...]

Blazers/Kings Pre-Thoughts
Let me start this up by saying that for a couple of reasons, we will not be on these pre-thoughts for too long. Seeing as how the Blazers and Kings just squared off a few days ago, there are not a ton of new thoughts creeping in my head. The other reason, is I do [...]
Frank Hughes: The Oden Dilemma
The feature story today in the NBA section at Sports Illustrated is by Frank Hughes, who delves into next season’s situation with Greg Oden’s contract extension. Hughes apparently caught up with Kevin Pritchard at Madison Square Garden, so there are quotes you probably won’t get anywhere else, though most of it you’ve heard or read [...]
Dwight Howard Injures Derrick Rose Again
This Dwight Howard stuff is getting old. I don’t think either play was overly-aggressive, but I don’t want my point guard leaving the game every time they play the Magic.
Thursday Conference Tourney Roundup
Yesterday was a great day of College Basketball.  The Big East, Big 12, and Mountain West had several great games. Big East First off, the Big East needs to re-format this tournament.  Having the double bye has proven to be a hindrance more than bonus as the teams receiving the double bye are 2-6 in the two [...]
