There are only a few games left as the Knicks continue to fight for their playoff lives. Sunday’s
game against the Heat was a tough loss. This was a game we really could’ve used Amar’e’s (who might make his return against the NJ Nets) services. Will he start?

One way or the other, I really like our current starting five (Tyson, Melo, Landry, Iman and Baron). I feel that if Amar’e were to come off the bench as our sixth man, it would really take our team to the next level. This is not to say that Amar’e isn’t starter material because he’s still one of the better power forwards in the league. This move would not only benefit the whole team, but both our stars. Why Amar’e to the bench and not Melo? We do not have a solid big man off the bench who can score. Also if you have noticed, when Melo sits down, the Knicks suffer because they do not have another consistent scorer. This is where Amar’e could step in and fill in for the five and the four spot.

Before the Melo trade, Amar’e was playing at a high level, just as Melo is doing now. Since Amar’e’s injury, Melo’s has been putting up MVP numbers. He has played really well at the four spot, creating mismatch problems for opposing teams.

Will Amar’e consider it? That’s the million dollar question.

And with the seventeenth pick, the New York Knicks select: Iman Shumpert! I never followed Iman in college; I only knew about him through the scouting reports and by researching what other analysts said about him online. What I got from it all was that he had a lot of potential and could be a solid back-up point guard who would help us out in the defensive end. The 6′ 5″, Iman (from Chicago, IL) played three years of college ball in Georgia Tech where he averaged 12.7 points per game, 4.2 Assist per game, 4.5 rebounds per game and 2.2 steals per game.

According to the scouting reports and to what the analysts said about him, Iman has exceeded all expectations. He is a tremendous athlete who plays great defense and his confidence (sometimes overconfidence) cannot be questioned. Under Coach Woodson, he’s kept in check and that has helped him. Key injuries to Jeremy Lin and Amar’e Stoudemire have really given Iman the opportunity to show why the Knicks drafted him at seventeen and at the same time, have other teams shaking their heads as to why they passed him up.

Iman’s game play is one of the reasons why the Knicks are still in the playoff mix. He’s done a fine job filling in for every position with the exception of center and power forward. Not only is his defense impressive, but he’s also done it on the offensive end. One of the areas that he’s improved in is his jump shot. Thanks to his improved shot selections, his shooting percentage has dramatically improved as well.

Iman will probably not get the rookie of the year award, but the sky’s the limit for this kid. He will be a force to reckon with for years to come. Our shooting guard position (which I feel is his ideal position) has been answered thanks to Iman, the rookie phenom.

What a game! This was Melo’s finest moment as a Knick. Regardless of what critics say about his game, whenever you need a big shot or someone to carry your team, Carmelo’s your man. The Knicks needed this win in the worst way. With the victory and with the Sixers’s loss, we not only have more breathing room, we were able to move up to seventh place. This is not an ideal spot to be in the playoffs because we’ll then be playing the Heat. Yesterday’s win was not only critical because of the playoff standings, but it also helped the Knicks gain more confidence. This game showed that the Knicks can be a force come playoff time. Melo proved that he is one of the top players in the game. Also, Tyson Chandler showed why the Knicks decided to trade for him as opposed to keeping Chauncey Billups.

His leadership and defensive hustle cannot be questioned. Tyson changed the Knicks’s culture around. How about rookie Iman Shumpert? This kid has really been playing well. He’s been known for his defensive play, but his offense has really come along. Not only can he take it to the hole, but his jump shot has been effective as well. Iman has been one of our most valuable players, playing multiple positions (small forward, shooting guard and point guard). Amar’e and Lin are sorely missed, but thanks to the trio of Melo, Tyson and Iman, they have Knicks fans believing that we can not only stay in the playoff race, but also be a threat come playoff time, regardless of our opponent.

I’m not sure what place the Knicks will end up in in the playoff standings, but I do know that yesterday was an important win for them. They secure their playoff position and gained mentally confidence. We beat the team with the best record in the NBA. The game was played with extreme playoff intensity, which included the return of last year’s MVP, D. Rose. Of course there are still games to be played, but yesterday the Knicks showed that they are for real.

The Knicks have 12 games left and of those 12, 8 are against playoffs teams. We’re not sure when exactly Amar’e, Jeffries and Lin will be available to play, so we just have to move forward and work with what we have. The last game against the Pacers was a tough one to swallow. It was a game where we could’ve really used those three starters. The Knicks as a team looked tired when they got to the fourth quarter.

I still feel the Knicks will make it to the playoffs (they currently hold the eighth seed). I also feel we can move up and try to get out of the eighth, and even the seventh seed; however, time is running out. The Knicks have been playing better under Coach Woodson, but the real test comes now. Can they get some wins against these tougher teams and try to move up in the standings?

Carmelo has been doing a pretty good job carrying this team, but there is just so much he can do on his own. We need others to step up on the offensive end. The remergence of Iman Shumpert has helped, but Lin’s injury really put a damper on the point guard position. Baron Davis, Mike Bibby and Toney Douglas have not performed well at all. Nevertheless, the Knicks have to move forward and keep fighting and relying on Melo, the defense and hopefully, Tyson, JR and Iman (if not, all three) to help take off some of the scoring load. One way or the other, time is ticking for the Knicks to make a last run for the playoffs.

After hearing the news about Jeremy Lin’s knee surgery, I immediately began to think about how the Knicks can make the playoff push now that two of their starters (Amar’e and Lin) are out for the majority of the season. Call me crazy, but I still feel the Knicks can continue to play well enough to not only stay in the playoff race, but also climb up in the playoff standings.

First of all, the teams that we have ahead of us (Sixers, Celtics, Pacers, Hawks and Magic) are not that tough. Secondly, we have one of the best players in the NBA in Carmelo Anthony, who is starting to play at a high level. With the injuries to Amar’e and Lin, Melo has to put the team on his shoulders and he’s the type of player who lives for these types of opportunities. With all the criticism he’s been getting since the trade to the Knicks, he now has the opportunity to prove the critics wrong.

Finally, the Knicks have a deep and talented team. Carmelo is our leader and go-to guy, but we have other players (Chandler, Smith, Shumpert, Fields, Novak and Davis) who can step it up as well. Because of the injuries, Toney Douglas and Josh Harrelson will now have the opportunity to prove to the coach that they deserve to get quality minutes as well.

The injuries to Amar’e and Lin are a major downer, but we have guys who can step up and fill in for the time being. As for Melo, it’s his time to shine and put up MVP numbers. If you ask me, I feel Melo will live up to the hype.

Just when things started to go well for the Knicks, Amar’e Stoudemire goes down with a back injury. It didn’t seem like a big deal at first, but now Amare’s looking for a second opinion from doctors and that’s not good news. This is bad timing considering we have tough games coming up and worst of all, the season is winding down.

The Knicks are not only trying to stay in the playoff standings, but they’re also trying to move up where it’ll leave them with a better opportunity to advance deeper into the playoffs. We’re still not sure how serious Amar’e’s back injury is, but we have to prepare for the worst. We need Amar’e in order to continue our playoff push, but I also feel that as long as everyone else on our team can stay healthy, we have a shot.

The Knicks are a very deep team. The two possible replacements for Amar’e are: Jared Jeffries (when he becomes available) or Josh Harrelson. Another possibility that I feel may work would be to shift over Melo to the four. He’s a good rebounder who can also post up. I feel that moving him to the four spot would cause problems for opposing defenders. If you shift him to the four, the starting five could consist of Tyson Chandler, Carmelo Anthony, Landry Fields, JR Smith and Jeremy Lin. I feel this lineup can make up for Amar’e’s absence.

The players will just have to step up. With Amar’e, we had a balanced offense. Without him, we can still have a balanced attack, but I feel we will need a little more scoring from Melo and Tyson, who I feel can make up for Amar’e. Tyson has shown in the past that not only can he defend, but he is more than capable of scoring as well. I think the Knicks will be able to keep their playoff push and title hopes alive even if we don’t have our superstar and leader, Amar’e. We’re one of the very few teams that have the luxury of having a very deep and talented team. My thinking is that we are going to see a lot more Melo and Tyson on the offensive end. Get well, Amar’e and keep your head up!

Of course we cannot expect the Knicks to win each and every game, but you would like to see them at least beat the teams they’re supposed to beat. In last night’s game against the Raptors, the Knicks’s offense was nonexistent. Melo and Lin didn’t perform well. Amar’e played okay and could have had over twenty points if he would have made more of his free throws. The bright spot for the Knicks was Steve Novak who contributed fifteen points off the bench. As for the Toronto Raptors, shooting guard DeMar DeRozan was amazing. He killed the Knicks as he finished the game with thirty points.

This is the first loss for the Knicks under coach Mike Woodson. It would be interesting to see how they’ll respond tonight as they square off against the Detroit Pistons. The Knicks should win this game, just as they should have won last night’s game. The season is winding down and currently, the Knicks are sitting in the eighth seed of the eastern conference with the Milwaukee Bucks are right behind them, who have been playing well as of late, thanks to their acquisitions, Monta Ellis and Ekpe Udoh. We still have time to climb up the standings and go as far up as the fourth seed, but in order to get there, we need to keep playing with a sense of urgency. We cannot afford to let up against teams that we should be able to defeat. Will last night’s loss be a wake up call for the Knicks? We’ll find out tonight.

The Knicks are back, well at least for now. The team has been perfect in all cylinders. They have been playing solid defense and they also have good chemistry. Coach Woodson has brought this team back from their losing ways and I have to say, I enjoy his coaching style. He previously coached the Atlanta Hawks and was pretty successful there, leading the team twice to the semi-conference finals. A lot of his coaching style came under former coach, Larry Brown who I was a big fan of as well.

Mike Woodson has this team playing in a high level on both ends of the court. And who says the Knicks players cannot share the ball? During the three wins, the Knicks have been doing just that. The Knicks are now playing with a sense of urgency but at the same time, they are enjoying themselves.

Following D’Antoni’s resignation, there have been talks of the possibility of the Knicks acquiring Phil Jackson or Jerry Sloan as the coach. But maybe we won’t need any of them. So far, the players have been responding to Woodson’s coaching ways. Also, his “no nonsense” way of coaching has been working. So far, he has gotten in JR Smith’s face for a foolish play the other day and also Landry Fields for messing up on a defensive assignment. I feel this is the type of coach we desperately needed here in NYC.

I also like how the coach has been utilizing all the players’ strengths in the offense and defense. I think the players, no matter how many shots attempts they take, appreciate it as well. I looked at the Knicks schedule and the next few games aren’t so bad. We will be facing off against the Raptors twice and we also have a rematch against the Sixers (I look forward to seeing how they will respond after the horrible loss against them a little while ago). Thanks to coach Woodson, NY Knicks basketball is back!

I went with my brother to the Knicks and Blazers game and it was very exciting. I didn’t know what to expect from the Knicks knowing that D’Antoni resigned, but the Knicks came out firing and continued to do so throughout the game. But what was more impressive was the Knicks’s defense. I have not seen the Knicks play defense the way they did against the Blazers in a very long time.

In order for the Knicks to succeed, we need to play defense. This is how teams win championships. This is how the Bulls and Lakers won championships. If the Knicks can continue to play defense the way did played against the Blazers, we have a chance to move up in the standings and be a very dangerous team come playoff time.

D’Antoni was a good coach, but he was all about offense. His style of coaching has been successful in the past, but not enough to win a championship. I’m not sure how it will turn out with interim coach Mike Woodson, but one thing’s for sure, he does preach defense. I don’t know about you, but I sure miss the Ewing era when the Knicks’s defense was amazing. I’m looking forward to seeing how things will play out for the rest of the season. Will D’Antoni’s resignation be a wake up call for the Knicks? Only time will tell.

The Knicks lose once again. Time is running out for this team and to make matters worse, tonight we will be facing one of the top teams in the NBA, the Chicago Bulls. What’s wrong with the Knicks? They don’t seem to have a identity and I think that’s the problem. Melo and some other players are not suited for D’Antoni’s system. Prior to Melo’s trade, D’Antoni had the perfect team to fit his style of play; however, that all changed when they gutted the team for Melo, which I do not regret.

Some of us knew when the Knicks got Melo that he would struggle with this system. We also felt that he would eventually get accustomed to it. We’re still waiting. We are all frustrated and we can blame this or that, but the fact of the matter is that in order for us to succeed, one of them has to go. The most likely candidate is Mike D’Antoni, who is on the last year of his contract.

He basically traded the team for him. Mike D’Antoni is forcing his run and gun system and it is not working. The fix is either trade Melo and get a player(s) that can run D’Antoni’s system or fire the coach and get a coach who can suit Melo’s style of play. If it was up to me, I would get a new coach (Phil Jackson?). I would go after a defensive coach who would bring out Melo’ s strengths.

One of things I would like to see the coach do with Melo is have him post up more. Melo is an amazing player and if he was to get more touches at the post, his field goal percentage would improve dramatically. This team shouldn’t be where they’re at right now. We are much better than this. The Knicks do not need to make any trades, the coach is the problem (No offense, Coach, but this is not the right team for you). I think the time is now to get a new coach. I wouldn’t be surprised if D’Antoni’s days are numbered.

The Knicks players need time to adjust to their new roles. This team can compete for a title for years to come, but it’s really up to the players to adjust and do what it takes to get there. Would they be willing to sacrifice their games in order to win? This is what it really boils down to. What is more important to you, personal performance or winning? Some nights Melo can be the featured player, on other nights it can be Amar’e and etc.

Melo has already proven that he is one of the best in the game, as well as Amar’e. So what’s more important to you now-to continue to break personal records or try to get three championship rings? Players cannot worry about how many shots he’s taken or not taken. Example, let’s say there is a game that Melo only has six points, if we won the game it shouldn’t matter.

The difference between the Knicks and let’s say, the Sixers, who also have a deep team, is that we have guys who can close out a game at any given night, but that’s only when the team needs it. When the team is struggling to score or close out a game, that’s when Melo and Amar’e should step up. We haven’t won a championship in a long time. Real die hard Knick fans do not care about how much a player scored, they care more about the “W”. Melo, Amar’e: Can you lead us to a championship?

The Knicks have a tough road ahead as they will be facing some of the tougher teams in the NBA (the Celtics, Mavericks, Spurs, Sixers and the Bulls). The Knicks started off the second half of the season with an impressive victory against the Cavs and following the victory, they had some time off. This time off could not have come at a better time.
As we already know, the shortened season did not bode well for the Knicks and this time off gave them the opportunity to get some good practices in before hitting the road. These upcoming games are very critical to the team, as they will be fighting with other teams for playoff position. As of now, the Knicks are the 8th seed and if the playoffs were to start today, they would be facing the Chicago Bulls. And this is not a team we would want to start off the playoffs against.

The Knicks goal should try to at least get to the 6th, 5th or 4th seeds where they can face more favorable matchups, such as the Pacers, Hawks, Sixers or the Magic. The end of the season is quickly approaching and this is why these games are crucial to the Knicks. Last season’s first-round sweep by the Celtics was tough for the Knicks.

Even though I feel really confident about the Knicks chances of going deep into the playoffs, it would be helpful to the team to face off against one of the teams I previously mentioned. Starting off against the Heat or the Bulls could end the Knicks’s playoff birth before it even begins. How do you guys feel about this upcoming road trip? Do you feel the Knicks can go up to the 6th, 5th or 4th seeds?

The second half of the season begins tonight for the Knicks and it will be interesting to see how the Knicks will perform with everyone back in the line up. They have all the right pieces to compete for a championship; however, in order for this to actually happen, there are a few critical things the Knicks need to have in order to take that giant step.

First, D’Antoni needs to figure out who will play major minutes for the remainder of the season. The staring five (Tyson, Amar’e, Landry, Melo and Jeremy) will continue getting their minutes, but which players will get major minutes from the bench? The Knicks have a very deep bench and the list includes: JR Smith, Iman Shumpert, Baron Davis, Jared Jeffries, Steve Novak and Josh Harrellson. There are a few others who I did not mention such as: Toney Douglas, Bill Walker, Mike Bibby and Jerome Jordan. Mike D’Antoni has his hands full.

Second, Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire need to step up their games. Well, I’m not too concerned about Carmelo’s game because he was plagued with injuries, so I expect him to step it up. However, Amar’e has not been playing like a superstar and in order for us to get to the next level, we really need Amar’e back. I do not feel that Amar’e has lost a step in his game, he just needed a point guard to get him some good looks. I expect him to come back and play well, now that he has two point guards who can get him the ball.

Third, Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis need to play well from the point guard position. Jeremy Lin has been phenominal with the exception of the Heat game and I expect him to continue to play well. But, he just needs to figure out how to get Amar’e involved. Not so much Melo because he can find his own rhythm. Also, Lin’s got a good rapport with Tyson and Landry.

As for Baron Davis, the Knicks need him to give quality minutes off the bench. As well as Jeremy Lin’s been playing, he’s just learning the game, so Baron’s experience will be critical down the stretch. If the Knicks can address these areas, we should be in good shape to go deep into the playoffs and hopefully, compete for a championship. What do you guys think?

Well thanks to the Heat, the Linning streak is over. The Knicks break-out star proved he’s human after all with a tough loss. What does this mean now? It means nothing! This is just one game, ladies and gentlemen. This was a good game for Lin to learn from. He went against one of the best teams in the NBA with one of the best defenses.

Now the Knicks can go back to playing ball with less distractions. The Knicks have a little break before they play the Cavs and during this break, the team can get some good practices. Hopefully, the Knicks can figure out a way to feature Amar’e more on the pick and roll. Also during this break, Baron Davis can work off some more of the rust. Additionally, JR Smith will finally be able to practice with the team.

As for Lin, he will bounce back from his lackluster performance against the Heat and continue his strong play. Every player in the NBA has a bad game whether you’re a superstar or not. And this kid is not a fluke. I see a nice future for him in the NBA and hopefully, it will all be with the NY Knicks. I look forward to the second half of the season. I’m sure you guys are excited as well. Next time around, we’ll be ready for the Heat and Lin will be Linsational!

Welcome back, Melo! The Knicks started off well with everyone passing the ball and it was nice to see Baron Davis back on the floor, playing a few minutes. Everything was great following a tough win against the Mavs. The Knicks looked like a power house team. So, why did we lose a game at home against the lowely NJ Nets? Deron Williams was unstoppable and Kris Humphries looked a little like Dwight Howard on the floor. Plus, rookie Marshon Brooks added some fire power.

Lin had a pretty solid night, but there were times that he was reluctant to shoot and tried to give the ball to Melo and Amar’e when he should’ve just played his game. JR did not shoot well and Tyson was in foul trouble for most of the night. This lost puts us back to the drawing board. The win against the Mavs does not mean anything now. The Knicks have all the right pieces to compete now for a title, but championship teams need to bring it every night. This was another bad loss at home against another bad team. Melo had a bad shooting game, but he just got back. I’m sure the next game he’ll be much better.

Despite the 6 turnovers, he had 6 nice assists. The Knicks continued to pass the ball around and that was nice to see. Baron playing will help us out because the Knicks will not have to depend solely on Lin. D’Antoni has a tough job in trying to figure out who and how to play these guys together, but figure it out, he will. The Knicks have everyone back with the exception of Josh Harrellson. We have the team but in order to get to the next step, D’Anotni has to play a bit of Tetris to figure out how to play these guys together. More importantly, the Knicks need to bring it every night, no matter who we are playing against! Hopefully, the Knicks will ride this ship sooner than later. Up Next, The Atlanta Hawks!

Melo returns to the court and everyone will keep a close eye to see how he does with the new and improved lineup. Melo’s known as a ball stopper, jacking up to 30 shots a game. Even though people are doubting he will change his game, I’m being optimistic. First of all, in order for us to be a championship team, we need Melo. It would be in his best interest to mesh with the team if he wants this team to do well.

His dream was to play for the Knicks and it came true. The next step was to make the Knicks into a winning team and we now have that, thanks to Jeremy Lin. It might sound crazy, but I feel this team can compete for a title this year. Melo holds they key and we’ll see what’s more important to him: breaking single records or winning. I feel he’ll choose winning.

As for JR Smith, I wrote about him on my other blog. I thought more about it last night and I feel the addition of JR can go one of two ways: he can be a John Starks kind of player or turn out to be a Nate Robinson kind of player.

If we have the John Starks type, we have a winner who will add depth to the shooting guard position adding something we needed some improvement in and that is, three pointers. He would deepen and strengthen our bench and that is crucial, especially for this season because of all the back to back games being played.

But, if we get the Nate Robinson type (not talking about the present Nate, who has been playing great for the Warriors) then, it’s going to be a long season. And if you recall, Nate had really good games for us. He was exciting to watch, but he was not a fan of the coaches. He was considered difficult to coach and a negative in the locker room.

The return of Melo and the addition of JR can be a positive for the team. If this was NBA2K, the team would be solid! I’m going to try them out tonight. Or, if you put the Knicks on paper, the team is a contender. But, this is reality and it doesn’t always work out that way. I’m going to be optimistic and say, it will work out and we’ll be battling with the Bulls and Heat for a title.

This team has all the right pieces to contend for a title. First, we got Amar’e and then Melo, one of the best players and finishers in the game. Second, we needed a big man and we got one of the best in Tyson Chandler. Third, we needed a point guard and now we have that with Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis, who should be back after the all-star break. Finally, we picked up a player who can fit perfectly in D’Antoni’s system and can open the floor for them, hitting the three pointers and that’s, JR Smith. I’m looking forward to seeing them all playing together. The Knicks are back!

Jeremy Lin has been amazing. He has worked the pick and roll to perfection and it will only get better when Amar’e and Melo return. But, what will happen when Baron Davis is healthy and able to play? At one time, he was supposed to be the Knicks’s savior. Everyone was so excited (including me) when the Knicks picked him up. We couldn’t wait to see him team up with Melo, Amar’e and Tyson. He’s had a few set backs, but is likely to return following the all-star break. I must say, this is a good problem to have; we will have our point guard situation set. But who will start? The answer is simple: Jeremy Lin should and will continue to start. I’m sure Knicks fans would agree, but that doesn’t mean Baron won’t get playing time. In addtion to Baron backing up Lin, D’Antoni can pair them up for a few minutes on the back court. The defense will suffer a bit, but imagine them taking turns running the pick and roll…

The playing time for some of the other Knicks players will suffer when Amar’e, Melo and Baron return. Most likely, it will be Bill Walker, Toney Douglas and Steve Novak’s time. The players who will most likely get a majority of the minutes off the bench will be Baron Davis, Iman Shumpert and Jared Jeffries.

Josh Harrellson, Steve Novak, Bill Walker and Toney Douglas will split time between them; it will mostly depend on the matchup. But having all these players is a good problem because as the season continues, the games will take a toll on them.

Jeremy Lin will continue to be the Knicks starter and hopefully, for the future. As for Baron Davis, he’ll get his time. I’m sure D’Antoni is not worried. As I previously mentioned, it would be exciting to have two point guards taking turns, working the pick and roll.

The sudden emergence of Jeremy Lin and the addition of Baron Davis, if and when he becomes available, will only make the Knicks stronger. Knicks fans, the wait is over…we are back!

The Knicks have won three straight games thanks to Jeremy Lin’s play and without our superstars, Amar’e and Melo. Oh, and let’s not forget Josh Harrellson (aka Jorts), who has been playing solid ball before getting injured. How about that!? Who needs them when you have Lin!? I’m joking, but we have been playing really well as a team. Jeremy Lin has been the headline, but everyone else’s game has improved as well. One name who has been solid, is Steve Novak, who has 2 straight double digit games. Also, Tyson Chandler has been scoring more and Jared Jeffries, too.

You can tell Knicks look like a totally different team by the way they have been playing. The players look happy and confident. In a way, not having Melo and Amar’e for these past few games was a blessing in disguise because the coaches got a chance to see what they have on their bench.

Jeremy Lin’s play has been AMAZING. The whole team’s energy has changed. Everyone on the team believes in and put their trust in this kid. The Harvard grad has mastered the pick and roll. And you know what that means, Amar’e's back! His game will improved because of the point guard play. I am looking forward to seeing how J Lin will work the pick and roll with Tyson and Amar’e. It’ll be crazy! I mean, how would the defenders guard the pick and roll? If you guard Amar’e, then Lin will pass it to Tyson or vice versa and if you guard both, then Lin will just drive it home.

As for Melo, he will have better shot selections and wouldn’t have to force his shots. I know people are worried because he usually hogs the ball, but I believe he’ll fit in. We need Melo in order to succeed. If he does decide to hog the ball, the Knicks fans will let him have it and I’m sure he wouldn’t want that.

It’s just crazy how a little tweak to the team changes their whole dimension. This team doesn’t need to add any more players, all we need now is for all to get and stay healthy and this team will go far. Yes, I said it! Look out NBA because the Knicks are coming!

How do you guys feel about these Knicks and how do you think the Knicks will play when Amar’e and Melo return?

I can still hear the Knicks crowd chanting his name…. WHAT. A. GAME for the 3rd string point guard-it was unreal! Back when the Knicks signed Jeremy Lin, Earlier in the season, I wrote about how excited I was that we picked him up. Last night’s game was an exciting one. The Knicks were booed in the 1st, but when Jeremy entered the game, the mood changed IMMEDIATELY! He filled up the stat sheet with career highs, 25 points, 7 assists, just to name a few. What was even more impressive was that he did it against one of the most elite point guards in the league, Deron Williams!

If you have been following Lin this season with the Knicks, he was only playing garbage minutes. Then, he was sent to the D Leaugue and was finally brought back to the Knicks to only play more garbage minutes. Then, all of a sudden, he came into the 2 quarter of the Celtics game and played some solid minutes against the veteran team. I figured he would come back in the 3rd, but never returned. But yesterday, I guess the coaches saw something in Lin’s game and he played over 35 minutes against the Nets. And he made the most of it. He must have been listening to Eminem’s Lose Yourself, because he took full advantage of the opportunity. Lin’s play put smiles on all Knick fans, players and coaches.

We wanted a point guard and it has been answered, well, at least for last night’s game. Now, I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but the kid’s got potential. His penetration was solid, something we have been lacking for quite sometime. Once he starts hitting down the outside shot on a consistent basis, the sky’s the limit for him. I’m sure D’Antoni is ecstatic and a little relieved because when and if Baron Davis is available, we could possibly have our point guard issues answered.

This was the first time we got to see how effective this team is with an actual POINT GUARD who can penetrate. The Knicks fans, analysts, sports writers and coaches kept repeating the obvious about what the Knicks are missing and it looks like the answer was sitting on our bench the entire time. Congrats, Jeremy Lin!

Fields, where have you been!? Landry’s been on a tear lately and I’m really happy because before the Melo trade, he was playing solid ball. He’s has 7 games in January scoring over 10 points and that’s a good sign for the team. Landry, who played college ball at Stanford, was drafted 39th in 2010 draft by the NY Knicks (more about his history here). Before the Melo trade he was one of the top rookies and I was thinking to myself, man, we got ourselves a steal!

Landry has a good understanding of the game. He has a great all-around game consisting of shooting, passing and rebounding the ball. His strengths show when the team moves the ball around, more of a team game. This was the way the Knicks were playing prior the the Melo trade and people talked about how Landry does not fit into the current team, but that is not the case. This is a brand new team and they just need time to gel and as you can see, the Knicks are now playing to his strengths. His continued solid play is the key to the Knicks success.

As for yesterday’s game against the Pistons, his stats were: 18 points (7-10 shooting; 4-6 three point range), 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Now I know what your thinking, this was against the lowly Pistons, but the Knicks have been losing to every team. While watching last night’s game, I noticed the Knicks are starting to get more comfortable with their offense. I attribute this to the ball movement, which will improve everyone’s offense, especially Landry’s offense. Welcome back, Fields!

In order to succeed, the Knicks NEED a point guard (even though we’ll probably be okay when Baron Davis is available). I wanted to play GM and see how the Knicks would fair if they were to make a trade for a superstar point guard who may be available if the team doesn’t improve. I think you know who I’m talking about, no, not Nash…yes…Deron Williams. So, I put together a trade involving three teams: Knicks, Nets and the Warriors with the assistance of ESPN’s Trade Machine. See below:

As you can see, some of the featured players are Amare Stoudemire and Monta Ellis to the Nets, Deron to the Knicks, and Brook Lopez and rookie, Marshon Brooks to the Warriors. Let’s starts with the Knicks: Getting Deron will make us a MUCH better team. We will have a young floor general for years to come teaming up with Melo and Tyson. Yes, Amare would be missed, but we have Tyson and I feel he can fill in for Amare, working the pick and rolls. Just imagine a trio of Melo, Deron and Tyson. That would be a heck of a team.

As for the Nets, they will have two superstars in Amare and Monta; not a bad duo and they would represent the team in Brooklyn. Plus Amare gets to team up with his boy, ex-Knick, Shawne Williams.

Finally, the Golden State Warriors will have a low post player in Brook Lopez and a solid rookie Marshon Brooks who has a lot of potential. The team would be well-balanced with Curry leading the way.

The Knicks need a point guard in the worst way. We hoped to get Cp3 and that fell through; however, we possibly have another shot at a superstar point guard and he is, Deron Williams. Lets go get him! Any thoughts?

The Knicks are losing and of course, the trade rumors are beginning to swirl. First, Deron Williams for either Melo or Amare and now, Dwight Howard (aka D-12) for Amare and Tyson, which was posted by Stephen A. Smith. Smith also posted a podcast talking about this as well and I listened to it earlier this morning. He was very emotional talking about the Knicks’s struggles and the possibility getting D-12 to for Amare and Tyson and I could not agree anymore. As much as I feel the Knicks need more time to glue and need a point guard in order to make things work with this group, they should be playing better than they have been playing. Let’s face it, the trio of Amare, Tyson and Melo is not working out. Will a point guard make a difference? I think so, but how much? And if you have the opportunity to snatch up a big man such as D-12, the most dominant big man in the game, you do it in a heart beat. This is a no brainer…pairing up D-12 with Melo would be amazing.

As much I am a fan of Amare, he is not clicking with this team. He really looks depressed and looks as if he’s playing hurt. It’s sad because I really like Amare, but he is a mere shade of himself. He was the only superstar who took a chance coming to the Knicks, has helped make the team become winners again and helped bring Melo and Tyson to the team.

As for Tyson, I was ecstatic and surprised that we were able to get him. He is a true leader and really good defender. He was one of the key reasons the Mavericks won the championship. But, since it’s not working out, the Magic see this as an opportunity getting two solid starters for D12. Dolan, Grunwald if you’re listening….make the move. If you have a chance, listen to Stephen A. Smith’s podcast and let me know what are your reactions.

The Knicks are struggling. It’s easy to point fingers, but who can we really blame? I’m a Knicks fan and when I see my team lose, I get frustrated, but then I remember that this is a whole new team that hasn’t had much time playing together; and I’m not talking since the Tyson Chandler trade, but back from the Carmelo trade. If this was a video game like NBA2K then yes, the Knicks would be playing awesome as they supposed to be, but this is reality. So, who can we blame? No one…not yet.

Even though the coach is usually the first to blame, it’s not Dantoni’s fault. Neither is it the fault of our super stars, Melo and Amare. The team needs more time together. The lock out really hurt this team. So, it’s like the Knicks are having training camp during the season. I don’t regret any of the Knick trades. We got our two superstars, which I am happy about and as much as I miss having Chauncey Billups because he is a leader and a winner and a point guard, we really needed a big man. Tyson Chandler is one of the best centers in the game because of his defense and leadership.

There are areas the Knicks need to address in order to be a championship-caliber team. First of all, we need a true point guard and hopefully we have an answer in Baron Davis, who should be ready soon. But if not, I’m sure there would be guys available in February who we can have as insurance (Jamal Tinsley comes to mind) or next summer, when there will be free agents floating around like, Steve Nash and Raymond Felton.

Another area we need to address is outside shooting. Outside of Josh Harrellson and Steve Novak, we do not have a pure shooter. We have guys who can shoot the three ball, but not on a consistent basis. A couple of guys that we can possibly look at are Gilbert Arenas (who’s waiting for a team to pick him up) and JR Smith who will be available in March.

The bottom line is we need patience. Yeah, it’s easy for me to say, especially being a NY fan and having all those losing years, but we are heading in the right direction…it’s just a matter of time. It’s good to be a NY Knicks fan again!

From what I’ve seen so far, the new players haven’t had enough time playing together and they’re having chemistry problems. I’m confident it will only be a matter of time ’til they get it together. We had some injuries: Amare, Melo, Jeffries and Iman, plus we are still waiting for Baron Davis to come back from his injury. Carmelo has been playing great, even though he’s been slowed down recently due to injuries. Tyson Chandler’s presence has been felt and tonight showed that he is a solid center (I totally don’t regret trading for him). The rookies, Iman and Harrelson, have been solid so far. Toney Douglas is back on the bench. Honestly, I felt from the beginning that he’s better suited to come off the bench. Jared Jeffries, once he gets back into the flow the game, will produce defensively and he’ll be doing all the dirty work.

The only major concerns right now are Amare, Landry and Baron. As you know, Amare’s in a funk, but he’ll eventually get it together. I do feel that Amare will be better off playing with a true point guard and hopefully, Baron Davis will be that point guard who will be able to find him some easy buckets. My only concern about Baron is whether or not he can stay healthy.

The one who really concerns me is Landry Fields. He seems to have lost a lot of confidence and it’s a shame because he has a lot of potential. He played well before the Melo trade. I feel once Baron is able to play, they should have Landry come off the bench, not because of his slump, but because Iman fits well with the first unit with his defense and physical play. If Landry can get it going, he can be a plus from our bench. Right now, we really do not have an official sixth man. The Knicks obviously still have work to do to get to the next level, but once things start to click, the sky will be the limit for us.
