The 2014-15 NBA schedule hasn’t been released yet, but slowly things are starting to leak out, including some of the leagues plans for Christmas Day, which include what is being dubbed the LeBronfest when the Miami Heat and Cleveland Cavaliers are speculated to be taking over one of ABC’s marquee Christmas Day time slots.
As for the New York Knicks, they are used to playing on December 25, but their rumored opponent is not.
Many reports have the Knicks facing off on Christmas against the Washington Wizards, which I believe says a lot more about where the Wizards are at than the Knicks.
Not every Christmas game is going to feature two great teams and let’s face it, if the Knicks weren’t from New York City where they can draw from a big market, they likely wouldn’t be showcased, especially coming off a poor 2013-13 season.
But John Wall, Bradley Beal, Paul Pierce and the rest of the Wizards are a team on the rise and a fun team to watch, one the NBA is smart to give some national exposure to after advancing their furthest in the playoffs since 1979.
If these reports are true, this would be the Knicks’ sixth straight Christmas Day appearance and the Wizards’ first in six years and just second in 27 years.
