NBA Rumors: New York Knicks Won’t Take Carlos Boozer in Melo Deal

If the New York Knicks ultimately lose Carmelo Anthony to the Chicago Bulls, hopeful a sign-and-trade is completed so the Knicks at least get a little bit of something back in return for potentially losing their superstar.

One of those pieces will not be Bulls forward Carlos Boozer.

According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, the Knicks have no desire to take back the veteran forward.

Broussard writes:

The Knicks’ top priority is, of course, to resign Anthony. But if Anthony decides he wants to play in Chicago, it would make sense for the Knicks to retrieve some assets via a sign-and-trade, and a source said they would perhaps do so as a last resort.

The Bulls would want to include Boozer in such a deal because it would allow them to avoid amnestying him and his $16.8 million salary and would also enable them to pay Anthony more money.

But the Knicks, according to sources, will not cooperate with any plan that involves them taking back Boozer.

With Boozer’s salary coming off the books after this season, it would make some sense that the Knicks would have interest in bringing him aboard, given that their eyes are on next offseason.

However while the Bulls are looking to clear money off their books in order to attempt to sign Melo, the Knicks aren’t going to help them do it in any fashion.

It is worth noting that the Bulls have yet to approach the Knicks about a sign and trade, but that day is likely coming soon.
