New York Knicks Rumors: Is Mark Jackson the key to Carmelo Anthony staying?

Another week has passed and the New York Knicks are nowhere near closer to having a head coach than they were the day Phil Jackson fired Mike Woodson.

With that in mind, every week that passes we are also a week closer to Carmelo Anthony possibly testing the free agent market.

Even Jackson admitted during his media session on Friday that he is not losing sleep over Anthony leaving, but is concerned about him opting out and hitting free agency.

However while Jackson has also noted that he has talked to Anthony about opting-in this season, one man could very well hold all of the cards in making sure ‘Melo is in a Knicks uniform this year and beyond.

That guy is Mark Jackson.

While Phil Jackson is considering many factors in who will coach the Knicks next, one of them needs to be Anthony and if that is the case hiring Mark Jackson should be a no-brainer.

However while Mark Jackson isn’t experienced with the triangle offense, he apparently is the guy that Anthony wants to see hired as the Knicks next head coach.

ESPN’s Ian Begley reports that one source familiar with Anthony’s thinking on the matter said recently that the star forward would “embrace” the opportunity to play for Mark Jackson.

That doesn’t mean that Melo would only play for Jackson, but he pretty much laid out his hand.

At the end of the day I really can’t see Anthony wanting to play for an inexperienced coach, especially with a guy like Jackson available.

However if Phil Jackson is taking Anthony’s free agency into account while searching for a coach, shouldn’t he take a serious look at Mark Jackson?

Ultimately it could be Mark Jackson who holds all the cards in determining where Anthony will play next season.

Oh stop. I would absolutely NOT hire a coach who doesnt want to listen to upper management. I would rather hire someone who is willing to take the mentorship from phil jackson. Jackson senior is the one Melo should trust, not Jackson junior.

Phil Jackson was hired to be the man in charge of making decisions and he needs to continue to be in charge. He cant let Anthony or anyone else dictate who should be hired (and I actually do want Anthony back). If Anthony is going to leavebecause Phil Jackson doesnt hire Mark Jackson then they should let him go.

Yep let Phil do his thing, at this point he is the Knicks only hope to bring the NBA title back to NYC.

Well Phil… You should have kept Woodson and his 100 + wins after D’ Antoni fell on the sword.
Not sure why you fired him if he was willing to learn the triangle. Makes no sense to me, but hope we can keep Chandler, Melo, Hardaway JR, Shump, and Smith.
