They got their old name back, now the Charlotte Hornets are looking to add a new star.
Anthony has made it know he wants to win and in this scenario would have to take less money to head to Charlotte but sadly some of this speculation makes sense.
Melo has an endorsement deal with Jordan’s shoe company and sadly the Hornets are in much better shape to win in the Eastern Conference than the Knicks are right now.
Rick Bonnell and Ben Weinrib of The Charlotte Observer wrote about the idea:
He has an early termination option that could make him unrestricted this summer. The questions abound: Would he want to be in Charlotte, particularly considering he’d take a significant pay cut by not re-signing with the New York Knicks? And Clifford’s occasional concerns that the ball “sticks” (doesn’t move quickly enough) could only multiply with Melo around…
…Anthony supplies shooting the Hornets need and also supplies offense that the Hornets haven’t seen at small forward. He, Walker, and Jefferson all need the ball a lot, so it would be interesting to see how that trio would split touches.
At the end of the day while I like the idea of seeing Anthony, Walker and Jefferson on the same team, it is all a pipe dream.
Over the course of the next couple of months, teams are going to come out of nowhere and suddenly be linked to Anthony, but at the end of the day if he were to leave the Big Apple it would be for a team in a major market that he feels could contend for a championship as early as next season.
While the Hornets are in much better shape than the Knicks, they don’t exactly qualify.
