Finally, some good, player-related news for the New York Knicks!

The NBA announced today that Knicks’ rookie Tim Hardaway Jr. was selected to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Coincidentally enough, it came on the anniversary of the last Knick to make the team, Iman Shumpert in 2012.

Hardaway Jr. was selected 24th by the Knicks last draft, and despite some criticism of the selection — based mainly on Hardaway’s streaky shooting and already-filled position on the team — he proved to be a great pick. In 81 games, Hardaway averaged 23.1 minutes per game with 10.8 points per game on 42.8% FG, 36.3% 3FG, to go with 1.5 rebounds per game.

At times, Timmy Jr. was electric. His penchant for getting hot behind the arc lit up Madison Square Garden and shot the Knicks back into games. He also has elite athletic and finishing ability, seen in some acrobatic drives to the room or trampoline-like leaps for dunks on the fastbreak. He still has plenty of room to grow in picking his shots, becoming a more consistent shooter, rebounding, passing, and most of all, defensively, but Hardaway’s explosive scoring ability is a trait the Knicks will look forward to watching.

A bit of trivia from Knicks PR:

So, when the Knicks actually have their draft picks, they’ve been choosing them pretty well lately.
