New York Knicks Rumors: Still no contract offer for Steve Kerr

Another week has passed and the New York Knicks are still without a head coach as hot coaching candidate Steve Kerr, who was expected to make a decision between the Knicks and Golden State Warriors by Friday, still has yet to announce his intentions.

A lot of that can be put on the Knicks as they reportedly have yet to make Kerr a formal written offer.

Kerr’s agent tells Diamond Leung of Bay Area News Group that there is “nothing new” for his client and sources tell Marc Berman of The New York Post that a decision from Kerr won’t happen until next week, due in part to formal details that need to be worked out on a contract.

Berman also reports that Kerr is leaning toward taking the Knicks job. However, the former Suns GM intends to complete his TNT broadcast commitments, which runs through the Western Conference Finals, regardless of whether he takes a coaching position.

While the Knicks fully expect to hire Kerr, it is a bit odd that no contract has been offered over the course of his courtship the past couple of weeks.

It is being reported that Kerr is seeking a similar contract to that of the four-year, $24 million contract that the Knicks gave Mike D’Antoni in 2008.

Some of Kerr’s hesitation likely has to do with Knicks owner James Dolan.

Berman also notes that Kerr is somewhat uneasy with owner Dolan’s style of doing business, and Berman’s source says Kerr is concerned that the Knicks haven’t yet produced a contract offer.

It’s worth noting that the Warriors seem to be deciding between Kerr and Stan Van Gundy for their vacant coaching position.

However for the Knicks, it looks like the drama of their vacant coaching situation will continue for at least another week.
