Special thanks to Carmelo Anthony, the New York Knicks will not have a 2014 first-round pick in what proves to be a very deep 2014 NBA Draft.

This year’s draft pick was included in the deal with Denver for Carmelo. This year’s draft is much more balanced with talent than last year’s draft. It will be very difficult for the Knicks to trade for a pick especially since GM’s won’t be as willing to let a pick go.

In order to receive a pick, New York will have to surrender one of their current player’s contract. A few guys could be attractive to other teams and worth a pick including Tyson Chandler, J.R. Smith, and Iman Shumpert so if they want a draft pick one of those players will have to be moved in return.

A great deal of the Knicks’ struggles starts with the point guard position. If they do not get one during free agency the draft would be the next best option. There is a plethora of talented point guards in this year’s draft class that potentially could make an impact.

With the pick-and-roll no longer being a viable threat, New York struggled to create consistent looks from the perimeter which is very important when you want a less predictable system.

Another huge need is a defensive specialist big man who can be effective down low in the paint as well. Of course, finding capable big men isn’t easy, especially when your assets are so severely limited.

The one thing the Knicks will have in their favor is expiring contracts. The money from those contracts could be used to pursue some guys in free agency as well as for the draft.

If they were to trade for a draft pick in the 2014 NBA Draft here are few guys who they could consider for a first round draft pick:
