3. Kris Humphries, 6’9″ Forward
I know a lot of people in New York remember him for his days with Kim Kardashian and wouldn’t be too thrilled with this signing, but look at him as a ball player for a moment. The guy simply plays hard and rebounds the basketball. While seriously overpaid this year ($12 million), he should have good value at the MLE for a contender. He was on a terrible Boston team this year and didn’t receive a lot of playing time, but his per 36 was 15.1 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks. I’d take a max effort guy like that any day.
4. Emeka Okafor, 6’10″ Center
Yes, he sat out the entire 2013-2014 season, but the former second overall pick could potentially be your classic low risk-high reward signing. Neck injuries are never a good sign, especially for a center who will spend most of his time under the basket. However, Okafor is a tremendous defender and rebounder. In the 2012-2013 season, he averaged 8.8 rebounds and a block a game while playing behind or alongside Nene. His monster $14.5 million contract expired this year and having sat out all year with a neck injury, Okafor’s price should be much lower and possibly low enough for the Knicks to sign him.
5. Marcin Gortat, 6’11″ Center
High energy center that plays well on both offense and defense. He is currently playing incredibly for the Wizards in their playoff run while filling in for injured Nene. His 13.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game this year may out price him for the Knicks. He is making over $7 million this year so it is not very likely he will end up in a Knicks uniform unless they can move some serious salary. Gortat would be a nice replacement for Chandler if he is dealt this offseason.
