One of the biggest noticeable problems with the New York Knicks this past season was the lack of consistent point guard play.

At this point, a point guard is one of the biggest needs for the Knicks to consider this offseason. To put it simply, Raymond Felton is not getting the job done and a change is needed to be made as soon as possible.

This offseason there will be a plethora of point guards on the market to pursue, but due to lack of tradeable assets and lack of salary cap room, it will be a difficult task.

If they do indeed decide to heavily search for a new point guard here are five guys they should at least consider:

1. Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

If they want to contend, the Knicks need to make a play for Rondo. Here is a statement from B/R’s Grant Hughes on why the Knicks should pursue the star point guard:

“The Knicks need to move Heaven and Earth, strike deals with the man downstairs or pray to whoever it is James Dolan worships (probably Eric Clapton or the Allman Brothers). Whatever they need to do, whatever back-channel dealings have to happen, the Knicks must make every possible play they can for Rondo.”

Rondo ending up in New York is highly unlikely unless a third team helps complete a deal, but that doesn’t eliminate the possibility completely.

Since returning from his ACL injury this season he has struggled overall, but he will pan out fine in the long run since his game is not centered on athleticism much like a Derrick Rose.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reported rumors earlier this season that the Knicks were hoping Rondo would force his way to New York. They obviously want him in New York, they just have to be more active in the pursuit of him and it can happen especially since the Celtics are starting fresh in the rebuilding process.
