While a totally engrossing, entertaining first round of the playoffs continues to march on, the New York Knicks are still making headlines, thanks to the drama that surrounds their future. They have no head coach, a superstar headed for free agency, and a new president of basketball operations with no front-office experience, but the a decorated coaching resume. Things are interesting, certainly.
So, even with a lack of Knicks basketball, lots of interesting things are being written about the team. Here are a few quality New York Knicks links from around the web:
- Chris Herring with a solid take/overview of Carmelo Anthony’s free agency and Phil Jackson’s stance on the issue. If the Knicks/Jackson don’t want to give Anthony the max., their monetary advantage over other teams diminishes, making teams like the Chicago Bulls or Houston Rockets a lot more intriguing. The Knicks would have to hope that Jackson’s vision/Anthony’s love of New York would be enough to keep him.
- More Phil: Jackson’s coaching tree is not impressive. Every situation is different, but it is a little troubling as Jackson weeds through his disciples for a new head coach.
- Robby Kalland played the Oregon Trail as the Knicks and it went pretty accurately.
- A cool thing about ex-Knick Beno Udrih — who is tearing it up off the bench for the Grizzlies in the playoffs — and his history with the Spurs, Thunder GM Sam Presti, and basketball. The Knicks really screwed up by not maximizing what Udrih can do.
