It looks as if Jackson is going to have his hands full.
While a return to the Knicks still seems like a strong possibility for ‘Melo, the Knicks are going to face some serious competition, most notably from the Houston Rockets.
According to Eddie Sefko of SportsDayDFW, the belief that the Rockets are becoming front runners in the race to land the multi-time All-Star.
Houston has the ducks lined up to make it happen. That would give them a three-headed superstar grouping, which would either be awesome or blow up in their faces if Carmelo won’t share the ball with Harden and Howard.
Sefko also notes that he expects the Dallas Mavericks to make a play for Anthony, but not as their No. 1 player based on the fact that in over a decade Anthony hasn’t come anywhere near close to winning a championship.
But there’s that word again- championship.
‘Melo keeps talking about his desire to win a title and if that is truly the case, then he is unlikely to return to New York.
However there’s the financial issue as well as the Knicks can offer him an extra year and $30 million more than any other team, although the Rockets can put themselves in position to offer ‘Melo about $20 million per season.
Anthony has a lot to weigh before July 1. If his decision is basketball related, expect to see him inn another uniform next season. But if it is money related I fully expect Anthony to be wearing blue and orange.
