NBA Rumors: Carmelo Anthony wants to stay in NY but not rebuild

Everyone knew that Carmelo Anthony would have a lot to say about his future during his exit interview on Thursday as the disappointment of the New York Knicks missing the playoffs is still a sore spot with the pending free agent.

Anthony reiterated what he has been saying all along- he wants to remain in New York.

But he also didn’t go as far as saying he would re-sign as he explained that even though he wants to remain in a Knicks uniform, he wants to explore his options and has no interest in a Knicks rebuilding situation.

He told that to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News:

ESPN’s Ian Begley also chimed in with the fact that Anthony has no interest in rebuilding.

That leaves the Knicks in a bind as Anthony clearly doesn’t want to suffer through another embarrassing season like the one he just went through and without draft picks or salary cap flexibility, the Knicks aren’t likely to be any better next season. Phil Jackson wants to sell Anthony on the Knicks finishing near the bottom of the standings next season and loading up in 2015, but Anthony is clearly not clean on the idea of waiting until then.

The upcoming months will be a difficult time for both the Knicks and Anthony, as we will have to wait until July 1 for an answer.

However it doesn’t look like Anthony is any more committed to the Knicks right now and that leaves the Knicks in trouble.
