The New York Knicks lost a crucial game to the Washington Wizards last night. It was a game the Knicks couldn’t afford to lose as they claw their way into the playoffs. This is especially true since the Knicks now face the Miami Heat on Sunday, and after that will see the likes of the Chicago Bulls, Brooklyn Nets, and Toronto Raptors; not exactly an easy schedule.
But if we want to search for some positives from last night, one would be Amar’e Stoudemire’s continued strong play. Stoudemire finished with 16 points on 6-9 shooting and 4 rebounds in 30 minutes.
The highlight of the night came when Stoudemire let Marcin Gortat roll down the lane and throw in a nasty dunk for the and-1. However, Stoudemire came right back, not to be undermined, slipped a pick-and-roll with Carmelo Anthony, and threw down a post in Gortat’s grill. Here’s Gortat’s Polish Hammer-style throwdown:
And then Stoudemire’s revenge:
Now, some critics will say Stoudemire’s dunk wasn’t legitimately a dunk — he didn’t totally grab rim, a la Blake Griffin style. But nonetheless, this is a 32-year old man who’s had several knee surgeries in the past three years. If Stoudemire can still attack the rim and get up like that, we’ll take it.
