After months, seemingly (like a week and a half), the New York Knicks will make the signing of Phil Jackson official today.
The announcement and details have been kept under pretty tight wraps, but word has it that Jackson’s title will be President of Basketball Operations. Of course, it’ll be months, maybe even years, until the details of the negotiations leak out and we learn what the snags are and what Jackson was able to come to terms with in regards to Steve Mills and James Dolan.
But, finally, this feels like one of those moments in Knicks history that feels potentially monumental. Like it could actually turn this wayward franchise around. Everyone close to Jackson has come to his support and said that his lack of experience in a front office won’t have an impact on the job he’ll be able to do. For Knicks fans, the biggest hope is that Jackson’s presence will turn the franchise’s primary focus to winning basketball games and little else.
The photo to the right has made its way around Twitter, and seems like MSG’s first public acknowledgement of the signing.
