With all the rumors surrounding New York Knicks’ superstar Carmelo Anthony potentially signing with the Chicago Bulls in the offseason, you have to wonder if half of Melo doesn’t already feel like he is wearing a Bulls’ uniform.
He’s not the only one.
According to ESPN’s Chris Broussard, who also broke the Noah story, injured Bulls superstar point guard Derrick Rose would like the team to sign the soon-to-be free agent Anthony.
Anthony responding that he admires the Bulls’ hard-nosed playing style, and that Rose is his son’s favorite player.
As I mentioned above, Noah is already on board with it. One source also told me Rose wants to add Anthony.
Besides the obvious basketball fit, Chicago is a flagship franchise and a top media market. While it might not be New York, it’s the closest thing to it outside of L.A. Anthony’s appeal on Madison Avenue wouldn’t fall one iota in Chicago. In fact, because the Bulls would be one of the league’s best teams, his national profile would actually grow.
Of course something like that would mean Anthony take a pay cut down to around $18 million from the $22 million the Knicks can pay him, however that is something he indicated he would be willing to do to win a championship.
Is Melo serious about winning a championship or is it really all about the money?
We will find that answer out in a few months.
Until then, expect a new rumor to pop up daily concerning Melo’s future as MeloWatch continues.
