With the 2013-14 New York Knicks sitting as close to rock bottom as they can get, all eyes aren’t on the Knicks playoff chances but are instead on the Carmelo Anthony watch.
While many feel it is as easy as waiting until the summer of 2015 and surrounding Melo with a couple of stars, it’s not as simple as that as you have to wonder why Anthony would want to sit through another season like this when he has stated that his main goal is to win an NBA Championship.
That appears to be the case as whispers suggest that Anthony won’t be willing to wait around until 2015 and instead will be basing his decision on what the Knicks do this summer instead.
According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, even though that stars such as Kevin Love and Rajon Rondo will be available as free agents in 2015, a plan might not be that appealing to Anthony, as rumblings indicate that the Syracuse star’s camp is only interested in what gets done this summer and not in 2015.
That alone leaves the Knicks in an impossible position as they have very little options to improve their club for next season.
Already over the salary cap for next season, NY won’t be able to sign any major free agents that can help right away.
Trade options are also very limited as the Knicks have nothing of value to offer other teams except rookie Tim Hardaway Jr.
They also won’t be able to improve via the draft as the Knicks don’t have a pick in the first round, in what happens to be one of the deepest drafts in recent memory.
Anthony wants to see a plan in place to improve next season before he decides to re-sign or not.
Sadly the Knicks don’t have one.
