The New York Knicks desperately want, and need, to acquire an upgrade at the point guard position before Thursday’s trade deadline comes and goes.
After striking out on the likes of Kyle Lowry, Jeff Teague, Rajon Rondo and now apparently Jeremy Lin, it looks as if the Knicks have turned their attention to the Los Angeles Clippers and Darren Collison.
A deal isn’t close and the proposal is fluid, but the Clippers are interested in Shumpert, Wojnarowski writes. The Clippers would need to add more than Collison to a package to absorb Shumpert and Felton. Other players have been discussed between the two teams to make the salaries match up in a deal, sources said.
Clippers coach Doc Rivers has expressed affection for Collison on several occasions this season, notes Sean Deveney of The Sporting News, so his inclusion could become a stumbling block.
Collison filled in very nicely for Chris Paul this year when CP3 was injured and has shown the ability to be a decent playmaker in stops in New Orleans, Indiana, Dallas and now the Clippers.
Wojnarowski also notes that the Knicks are more than determined to move Shump by the deadline.
With the Knicks not wanting to part with Tim Hardaway Jr. in potential deals for Lowry, Rondo or Lin, it could end up that Collison is their next best bet.
