With his job, his season in jeopardy, New York Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson chose sunny Florida today for relief of the New York weather and hostile reporters.
Today Woodson hit the links at Trump National Golf club and Spa in Jupiter Florida. Woodson an avid golfer was enjoying the weather and showed no signs of stress as a result of the Knicks losing season. As always he was gracious and fun to be around. He didn’t look like a man was having is worst coaching season in his NBA coaching history.
NBA aficionado Gary Patterson confronted and spoke briefly with Woodson. Like most people he walked away saying what a class classy gentleman, with not a bad golf swing.
Those in the know believe that Carmelo Anthony is the one and only reason that Woodson still has a job with the New York Knicks. Both Woodson and Anthony both are represented by powerbrokers CAA.
With James Dolan going all in with Anthony, he will follow the rules and guidelines that CAA sets forth. Dolan wants Anthony to stay in New York, and I don’t blame him. Anthony has the star appeal that New York loves and hasn’t been seen since Bernard King.
Anthony, is partial to Woodson, as the whole New York offense is built around him. This is something most coaches would not do and George Karl, when at Denver, was not willing to do. In Woodson’s offense, Anthony gets the ball whenever he wants.
Lately this is not working for New York, especially at the end of games when the balls expected in Anthony’s hands, where he is now 0-for-11 for in shot attempts to win a game.
What I am saying Knick fans, is Anthony is not only taking the shots, he is calling the shots. And with Anthony calling the shots it appears Woodson is safe to finish the season with New York unless the team has a total collapse.
Hopefully after his round of golf at Trump he went back to his hotel room and started work on game tape. This is a defenseless Knicks team led by Raymond Felton who many GM’s believe is the poorest starting point guard in the NBA.
I was hoping Woodson would be working on upcoming trade deadline and not his short game.
