All I hear about is how this year’s New York Knicks team is missing the veteran leadership that last year’s team was filled of. Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, and Kurt Thomas are long gone and many believe their absence is a big reason why this year’s Knicks team is underperforming.
A name you will never hear is a player who started 16 games for Mike Woodson. Woodson seemed to love this guy and was probably the only person who thought he would contribute to the Knicks. This player is James White.
With the dunk contest talk heating up, I asked myself, what the hell happened to James “Flight” White?
I never understood the hype around this guy. If YouTube wasn’t around no one would have even known who he was. I remember Knicks fans actually tweeting out how great of a player he was when the Knicks signed him and how he was actually going to contribute to the team.
Seriously, you got all of that off a YouTube highlight reel and a European dunk contest?
Please. That just shows how thick skulled and stupid some Knicks fans are.
After embarrassing himself in the dunk contest last year, you haven’t heard the name since (rightfully so). The performance White put on last year, which seemed like he was missing dunks for a half hour and absolutely sucked the life out of the building, was embarrassing for White, the Knicks, and the fans.
The Knicks waived White in June and that should put an end to his NBA career.
White returned to Europe to play for Pallacanestro Reggiana in an Italian league, where he leads his team with 14.5 PPG. He now plays in an arena that sits 3,800 fans.
James “Flight” White used to be a Mike Woodson starter and represented the Knicks in the dunk contest just one year ago.
Now he is playing in front of a crowd short of 4,000 people in an Italian league.
No disrespect to White, but this shows some serious misjudgment on Woodson and how he evaluates talent.
