NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks still have major interest in Rajon Rondo

Stop me if you have heard this one before.

The New York Knicks are really interested in Boston Celtics’ point guard Rajon Rondo.

The Knicks have the strongest interest among teams eyeing Rondo as the trade deadline draws near, a source tells Insiders. However it is the same old problem for the Knicks as they have absolutely no trade assets to make a deal happen.

According to the source, the New York Knicks have been the team with the strongest interest in potentially acquiring Rondo from the Celtics as the deadline nears. The Knicks’ interest should come as no surprise as the team has endured their own struggles at point guard with the trio of Raymond FeltonBeno Udrih and Pablo Prigioni underachieving. However, the Celtics have no interest in the Knicks’ current assets at the moment.

While Celtics’ general manager Danny Ainge hasn’t told rondo that he won’t be traded, he has made it known that it will take a substantial offer for them to move the All-Star point guard.

That means the Knicks have next to no chance of landing Rondo, despite a report a month ago indicated the Knicks hoped to convince Ainge to deal Rondo to them sometime between now and the summer of 2015, when the point guard’s contract expires.

It is also worth noting that Rondo and the Celtics have engaged in discussion about an extension, and Rondo has said he can envision remaining with Boston for the rest of his career.

In addition to the Knicks, the Suns, Rockets and Mavericks have also been linked to Rondo of late, but it seems like the chances of Boston trading the point guard before the deadline are slim to none.

I give the Knicks some credit for going after their man hard, but at the end of the day it will prove to be nothing more than futile.

The organization simply doesn’t have the assets to make any major deal with any team.

They have no one to blame but themselves.

They put themselves in this position and now the Knicks are paying for it in a big way.
