NBA Trade Rumors: Knicks' Beno Udrih requests to be traded

At least someone wearing a New York Knicks jersey is smart and wants to get off the sinking ship instead of drowning as it goes down.

After another embarrassing home loss, this time Monday afternoon to the Brooklyn Nets, Knicks’ point guard Beno Udrih has asked for a trade from the Knicks, according to ESPN New York’s Ian Begley.

The Knicks will attempt to honor the request, according to league sources.

Good for Udrih.

At least someone wants to be saved from this mess.

It makes total sense for Udrih to want out as the backup point guard has had publicized issues with coach Mike Woodson. The coach has singled out Udrih on many occasions and ridiculously even blamed him for passing J.R. Smith the ball on his ill-advised three-point attempt a few weeks ago.

The twelfth-year veteran is averaging only 19.9 minutes per game, his lowest total since the 2011-12 season, and his current PER of 12.7 is below his career average of 14.0.

Yet while Udrih hasn’t been great defensively, he has been better overall than Raymond Felton this season, yet Felton gets major minutes while Udrih continues to get buried at the end of the bench.

You can’t blame him for wanting out.

However while the Knicks have said they will attempt to honor the request, it may be very difficult to do.

The cap hit for Udrih’s one-year contract is only $884,293. His small price tag would limit what kind of salary the Knicks could take back in return since they are already over the cap.

But good for Udrih for wanting saved, err I mean traded.

He’s smart enough to know there is no hope of saving this mess right now and it makes little sense to go down with a sinking ship.
