Early in the season I had reported the New York Knicks intention to make Minnesota Timberwolves’ forward Kevin Love their top target when the All-Star becomes a free agent in 2015.
Now it looks as if Love is eyeing the Knicks as well.
Sam Smith of NBA.com writes that Love, a free agent in the summer of 2015, favors the Knicks and Los Angeles Lakers.
With the Wolves struggling and Love becoming more frustrated by the day, it is all but certain he will take the first train out Minnesota the first chance he gets.
But while it is nice to hear the Knicks are already on his short list, there is a good chance they could be a distant second to the Lakers.
It has always been thought that Love would eventually make his way back to Los Angeles to don a Lakers uniform. That makes sense given the fact that he is a California native and attended UCLA.
Given the fact that both the Knicks and Lakers could have enough money to land two major free agents in 2015, the Knicks chances of landing Love could be nothing more than a pipedream.
It’s nice to hear that Love will be considering the Knicks, but before we throw a party welcoming him to the Big Apple, there is a lot that can happen between now and then.
The Knicks have their own problems to deal with internally and that is locking up Carmelo Anthony before they can even think about looking at other free agents two years from now.
