New York Knicks Rumors: Potential Knicks Trade Targets in 2014

It is no secret that the New York Knicks are currently one of the worst teams in the league. For a team loaded with talent, this is extremely surprising to us Knicks fans who had high expectations for the reigning Atlantic Division winners. The current roster the Knicks posses is not working and new GM, Steve Mills, and owner, James Dolan, might have to pull off some trades to fix the roster.

Who could they target?

Omer Asik, Houston Rockets

The Houston Rockets are very interested in trading Omer Asik and his large contract now that they have Dwight Howard holding down the center position rather well. With the Knicks struggling to rebound and hold down the paint, Asik could help and compliment Tyson Chandler rather well. Asik can play power forward or center, so an elite rebounder would be on the court for most of the game; something the Knicks are desperate for. It may be hard to acquire him due to a low amount of trade assets, but a package of Iman Shumpert, Metta World Peace, and a second round pick could get the job done if the Knicks are willing to part ways with them.

Kyle Lowry, Toronto Raptors

The Knicks were reportedly very close to green lighting a trade that would send Raptors guard Kyle Lowry to the Big Apple, but it was turned down last minute because the Knicks did not want to give up two guard prospect, Shumpert. Lowry has been having a good season up in Toronto, but the Raptors are asking for too much. Reports speculate they would want either Shumpert or promising rookie, Tim Hardaway Jr., as well as World Peace and a first round pick (2018). That seems like quite a bit for Lowry, but if the Knicks really want him then they could move ahead with the trade.

Danny Granger, Indiana Pacers

Granger is quite possibly one of the most underrated players in the NBA. After missing basically all of last season, Granger has been injured for much of this season but is now back and has been struggling to find consistent playing time. Granger when healthy can easily drop 20 points a game as well as get five or six rebounds. He could be a deadly weapon off the bench. The Pacers are looking to give him up for extra depth so the Knicks could potentially trade Shumpert, Raymond Felton, World Peace and potentially a pick for him. The Knicks are low on picks, but if they really want Granger they could potentially move one for him.

Rajon Rondo, Boston Celtics

This is probably the most far fetched and unlikely trade, but you never know. The Knicks have expressed interest in the triple double machine point guard who is currently recovering from a torn ACL suffered last season. Carmelo Anthony has also said he would love to see Rondo as a Knick, so the interest is there. The Knicks have reportedly been hoping Rondo forces a trade out so he does not have to go through the Celtics rebuilding period. The Celtics have been reluctant to trade their prized possession though, because they currently have a lead in the Atlantic without him despite being under .500. The Knicks could offer a trade along the lines of a distant first round pick, Shumpert, Amar’e Stoudemire, World Peace, Felton, and Hardaway Jr. for Rondo and Gerald Wallace. It may seem like a hefty price to pay, but if the Knicks are dead set on getting Rondo there is no doubt they will go ahead with it.

Although these trades may seem unlikely, the Knicks will have to do something to end this slump they are going through.
