Carmelo Anthony to miss third straight game

After the New York Knicks let one slip away at home Friday night against the Toronto Raptors, they don’t have much time to dwell on their 20th loss of the season as they must turn around and try and avenge their loss as they take on the Raptors in Toronto Saturday night.

However they won’t get any good news as superstar Carmelo Anthony won’t be making the trip.

It has been confirmed that Anthony will miss his third consecutive game Saturday night with a sprained ankle.

The move to sit Anthony is probably a good one as he will get an extra four days of rest as the Knicks next game isn’t until Thursday night against the San Antonio Spurs.

Anthony originally hurt the ankle Monday night in a rare Knicks win against the Orlando Magic.

In his absence the Knicks have lost both games to the Oklahoma City Thunder and Toronto Raptors as the offense has been very ugly.

While Anthony hasn’t been great this season as his field goal percentage sits at only 44.7 percent, the Knicks shot only 42.2 percent from the floor and 26.1 percent from behind the arc against the Thunder, which included a dreadful 8-for-22 effort from J.R. Smith. They followed that up by shooting only 38 percent from the floor, at home, in Friday night’s loss to the Raptors.

Smith has started in Anthony’s absence and has combined to go only 15-for-40 from the floor.

The Knicks weren’t playing great with Anthony in the lineup, but they are dreadful without him and need their best player back at 100 percent for their Texas trip upcoming next week.
