I wrote a few weeks ago how the New York Knicks are a house of cards just ready to fall down. I think it’s safe to say that this house has fallen or it’s just about ready to collapse.
With the Knicks sitting here at 6-15, the third worst record in the entire NBA; Knicks fans don’t know what to think.
The draft this season is arguably one of the deepest drafts in NBA history. There are about six players that can alter the course of a franchise and give the fans legitimate hope for the future. I would love for the Knicks to accept this season as a bust and focus on that, but it’s impossible.
The New York Knicks do not have a first round pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. This is all part of the Carmelo Anthony trade, and he might bolt after this season!
The Knicks have traded away both picks in the 2014 draft, 2015 second round pick, the entire 2016 draft, and the 2017 second round pick. The only way the Knicks can rebuild this team is through free agency and trades.
So if Knicks fans are hoping to infuse the team with some great young and exciting talent, like Paul George, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, or Damian Lillard; it’s not happening.
If this makes Knicks fans feel better, the Nets in worst shape. They have traded their entire 2014 draft, entire 2015 draft, entire 2016 draft, entire 2017 draft, and 2018 first round picks. That’s five straight drafts without a first round pick.
The next Nets first round pick is in eighth grade right now.
Say that last sentence aloud.
There will be no young talent in the New York area for a while so both teams have to build their teams through their wallets. For the Knicks, they are once again banking on the glitz and glamour of New York to reel in free agents.
If’ I am a star basketball player and can play for any franchise with the room to sign me, why would I choose to play for James Dolan and the Knicks? If Carmelo leaves, there’s a good chance professional basketball in New York could die.
The future doesn’t’ look good for the Knicks. If Carmelo stays, there’s a chance to stay competitive. With no draft picks, six wins in 21 games, and more bad headlines than Kanye West so far, I am preparing for doomsday in the Garden.
