Coming off of a tight victory over the Milwaukee Bucks last night, the New York Knicks might receive a little bit of good news for tonight’s matchup with the Chicago Bulls. The Bulls’ star point guard missed shoot-around with a sore neck. He feels confident that he’ll play, but Bulls’ coach Tom Thibodeau called Rose a game-time decision. From ESPN:
“Hell yeah,” Rose said when asked if he would face the Knicks. “For sure I know I”m going to play. But it’s just that I’ve got to get loose.”
Rose isn’t sure when the injury occurred but thinks it must have happened at some point in Tuesday night’s season-opening 107-95 loss to the Miami Heat. The 2011 MVP did say his surgically repaired knee is fine.
“I don’t know what play did it or whatever but my body’s just got to get used to playing,” said Rose….
Given Thibodeau’s penchant for sending injured/beat-up players jogging on the court, Rose likely will play. Then again, a stiff neck is something to be concerned about, and the Bulls can’t afford to have Rose missing more games with an injury that was exacerbated by playing through it.
Either way, the Knicks will face a tough challenge with or without Rose. This Bulls team (with just a few additions and subtractions on the bench) beat New York four times in their season series last year, sweeping the Knicks in the regular season in embarrassing fashion. The size of the Bulls will present problems for the Knicks, especially on the boards. Those issues will exist whether the speedy Rose plays or not.
We’ll find out as the day goes on whether Rose will, in fact, suit up or not.
