Preseason games have begun across the NBA, so the regular season is right around the corner.

With that in mind it is time for me to unveil my first NBA Power Rankings of the 2013-14 season.

For the time being I have broken things up by conference. Today we continue with the Western Conference, which promises to be loaded at the top.

Who is the best team in the west on paper? Let’s take a look.

15. Phoenix Suns: The Suns have two talented point guards inn Eric Bledsoe and Goran Dragic among others and added some potentially talented pieces through the draft in Archie Goodwin, Alex Len,  Alex Oriakhi but rookie head coach Jeff Hornacek is going to have a hard time stockpiling wins this season.

14. Sacramento Kings: The Kings are likely headed for the lottery again. They added a nice piece for the future in Ben McLemore to pair with DeMarcus Cousins, but it is the same old story is Sac-town. Too many guards and not enough quality big men.

13. Utah Jazz: After allowing both Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap to walk in the offseason, the likes of Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter and Trey Burke begin the youth movement in Salt Lake City. The Jazz have some talent, but a return to the playoffs is not likely.

12. Los Angeles Lakers: The Lakers will be back, just maybe not right off the bat or even this season. Not knowing when Kobe Bryant will return doesn’t give me a good feeling about this team out of the gate.

11. New Orleans Pelicans: Anthony Davis looks great so far in the preseason and the pieces are starting to come together in New Orleans with the additions of Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans. I like the Pelicans roster. Now we will see if Monty Williams can get the pieces to mesh together. Challenging for a playoff spot in the very tough Western Conference could still be a year away though.
