Kenyon Martin to sign second 10-day contract with Knicks

The original 10-day contract that New York Knicks forward Kenyon Martin originally signed will expire following Monday night’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

But don’t expect Martin to be going anywhere as the Knicks are expected to re-sign K-Mart to a second 10-day contract.

According to Ian Begley of, Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson confirmed that the team will re-sign Martin to another 10-day deal after his current one expires Monday night.

That’s not much of a surprise as it is widely expected that Martin will be around for the rest of the season, especially since Rasheed Wallace recently had surgery on his left foot and will be out for about eight weeks.

The 35-year-old big man joined the Knicks on February 23rd, after the team had opened up a roster spot by trading Ronnie Brewer to the Thunder.

However even with Martin on the roster, the Knicks are still very thin up front because he isn’t quite in game shape yet. K-Mart has played only five total minutes during the course of his first 10-day deal.

That could change quickly though if both Martin rounds into shape and Marcus Camby comes back healthy.

Camby was in uniform Sunday against the Miami Heat and dressed for the first time since January 10, being sidelined with a plantar fascia injury in his left foot.
