Make no mistake about it; the New York Knicks-Boston Celtics rivalry is real and alive once again.
Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Garnett made sure about that a couple weeks ago.
Everyone knows the Honey Nut Cheerios story by now and what ensued, which led to Anthony attempting to confront Garnett at the Celtics team bus, which ultimately earned him a one game suspension.
With the Knicks heading into Beantown for a big Atlantic Division game Thursday night, you can guarantee that Anthony will be more than a target for Celtics fans. ‘Melo won’t just be wearing a No. 7 Knicks jersey against the Celtics; he will be wearing a big bullseye on his back.
Anthony is public enemy No. 1 in Boston and he knows it. ‘Melo has taken precaution against anything happening by bringing his own personal bodyguard to Boston with him.
The reason for the extra security has nothing to do with matching up against Garnett once again, but instead because of the passionate and sometimes crude Celtics’ fans, who will without a doubt make it a very hostile environment for Anthony and the Knicks.
Just the way it should be.
Anthony bringing a bodyguard with him isn’t a sign of expecting bad things to happen, but just a precautionary measure.
After all, it’s Boston vs. New York.
I wouldn’t have it any other way.
