New York Knicks fans can get a bit frustrated with swingman J.R. Smith’s play on the court. His shot selection alone can drive a fan completely nuts.
But one thing you can’t take away from Smith is his confidence. He has a certain swagger to him on the court and that carries to the offseason as well.
During a video interview with Tashara Jones of the New York Post at a fashion event this weekend, the 27-year-old Smith said “championship” when talking about the team’s expectations for this season.
After being asked if it was a guarantee, Smith appeared confident in New York’s chances against anyone:
“In my eyes, yeah…Lakers, Heat, – whoever,” also adding, “if we settle for anything less, we already start off losing.”
While predicting a championship may be a bit far-fetched coming out of Smith’s mouth, I love the ring-or-else attitude he’s showing.
Even with the additions of Marcus Camby, Jason Kidd, Raymond Felton and others, the Knicks may not be title contenders right away, but attitude is half of the battle.
This Knicks team not only thinks they can win, but expects to.
I love the fact that a championship is a goal for this team. now it’s just a matter of backing up those statements.
