Even for the people that dislike video games, they can thank NBA 2K13 for unintentionally revealing the new uniforms for the New York Knicks upcoming 2012-2013 season. It was released via a Youtube trailer of the video game, and then was forced to be taken down. However screenshots on Pro Sports Daily are still available:
The biggest change to the uniforms is there will be no more black on the home or away jerseys (black was introduced on the 1997 uniforms). In place of the black comes a slick silver that will appear just around the collar and around the arms. The orange and blue that ran along the sides of the uniform will also be taken off.
Here is a look at the 2002-2012 uniform compared to the 2012-Present uniform on SportsLogos. I don’t know about you, but I like it. The removal of the color black is very interesting – maybe it’s because our rival Brooklyn Nets’ uniforms are black and white. The new uniforms also look like throwback jerseys from the old days- a time that fans loved rooting for the Knicks. So overall its a clean, new look that still has the influence of the old Knicks and its glory with Bernard King in the 80s and Patrick Ewing in the 90s. So I will give it a grade A-, its definitely better than previous years but does not have the pizzazz of other teams’ jerseys.
As for the shorts, the Knicks will use the logo they introduced last year but was not on their uniform (on Carmelo Anthony’s jersey above) .
The Knicks also made some changes to the back of the jersey by inserting the new alternate logo (above the player’s name) that has some resemblance to the 1970s Knicks logo. The previous Knicks logo on the back was in use since 2002 and had “NYK” in black letters surrounded by an orange circle. The new one, which is a little smaller spells out the “Knicks”.
