Jeremy Lin never said he was upset with the New York Knicks

Don’t you just love the online media? Leave it to them to create a story where there really isn’t one.

The New York Knicks are on the verge of signing Lin to be their starting point guard. Once they receive Lin’s offer from the Houston Rockets, the Knicks will officially match it. But the Rockets are in no hurry to hand Lin over to the Knicks. Maybe they are dragging their feet in hopes of a miracle?

The Rockets will eventually send the offer to the Knicks, and the saga will be over. But until then, Lin remains in limbo. And the media continues to take advantage of the delay by putting a spin on Lin’s feelings toward the Knicks. They are mining for page views as the world watches closely.

Just look at these headlines:
NY Daily News: Jeremy Lin surprised NY Knicks didn’t offer him contract before Houston Rockets offer sheet: source
ESPN New York: Jeremy Lin upset at Knicks
CBS Sports: Jeremy Lin upset with Knicks over contract situation?
Sporting News NBA: Jeremy Lin upset New York Knicks didn’t offer contract before Houston Rockets

Keep in mind that Lin never actually said that he was upset with the Knicks. All of this information comes from a league source. In other words, these are nothing but rumors. The NY Daily News also stated that “this is a sign to some NBA observers that Lin’s sudden stardom has clouded his thinking.” Once again, Lin has not made any quotes to this effect. So we have no reason to believe that Lin has suddenly become a diva.

In fact, the only hint of a response from Lin comes from his Twitter feed: “Lol why do u guys believe everything? No quotes from me = probably not true.” And this is the only believable thing I have read about Lin’s feelings over the past two days.

So everyone just relax and exhale. The Knicks are going to officially re-sign Lin very soon. The NBA is a business, and the Knicks are simply following protocol. I’m sure Lin, a Harvard graduate, understands this. Why can’t we?
