As Twitter continues to blow up with the story, ESPN is reporting that the Los Angeles Lakers have acquired point guard Steve Nash as part of a sign-and-trade. It is unclear what the Lakers will send to Phoenix, but it is believed to be the trade exception acquired last year in the Lamar Odom trade, and a number of draft picks.
So, let me get this straight. The Knicks have presumably lost Landry Fields to the Raptors, they’re on the verge of losing Jeremy Lin to the Rockets, and they completely lost the Steve Nash sweepstakes to the Lakers. I’m looking for the silver lining as a fan, but its hard to find one.
I can only look at this move from a Lakers perspective. My god, they’re loaded. Think about their two potential starting fives:
Nash, Bryant, Metta, Gasol, Bynum.
Or, Nash, Bryant, Hedo, Gasol, Howard.
Both of those line-ups are just unfair. The rich get richer, for sure.
As for the Knicks, yeah. I joked with a buddy on Facebook earlier today that we should start preparing ourselves for the second-coming of the Raymond Felton Era. Now? That’s looking like a best-case scenario. Best case! How did this all happen? The team is down to Jason Kidd and/or Felton. They’re going to have to sign both if they lose Jeremy Lin to the Rockets.
I hate to be that pessimistic Knicks fan, but I’m getting that sinking feeling in my gut that this is going in the absolute wrong direction. I need a pick-me-up. And his name isn’t James White.
