Melo returns to the court and everyone will keep a close eye to see how he does with the new and improved lineup. Melo’s known as a ball stopper, jacking up to 30 shots a game. Even though people are doubting he will change his game, I’m being optimistic. First of all, in order for us to be a championship team, we need Melo. It would be in his best interest to mesh with the team if he wants this team to do well.
His dream was to play for the Knicks and it came true. The next step was to make the Knicks into a winning team and we now have that, thanks to Jeremy Lin. It might sound crazy, but I feel this team can compete for a title this year. Melo holds they key and we’ll see what’s more important to him: breaking single records or winning. I feel he’ll choose winning.
As for JR Smith, I wrote about him on my other blog. I thought more about it last night and I feel the addition of JR can go one of two ways: he can be a John Starks kind of player or turn out to be a Nate Robinson kind of player.
If we have the John Starks type, we have a winner who will add depth to the shooting guard position adding something we needed some improvement in and that is, three pointers. He would deepen and strengthen our bench and that is crucial, especially for this season because of all the back to back games being played.
But, if we get the Nate Robinson type (not talking about the present Nate, who has been playing great for the Warriors) then, it’s going to be a long season. And if you recall, Nate had really good games for us. He was exciting to watch, but he was not a fan of the coaches. He was considered difficult to coach and a negative in the locker room.
The return of Melo and the addition of JR can be a positive for the team. If this was NBA2K, the team would be solid! I’m going to try them out tonight. Or, if you put the Knicks on paper, the team is a contender. But, this is reality and it doesn’t always work out that way. I’m going to be optimistic and say, it will work out and we’ll be battling with the Bulls and Heat for a title.
This team has all the right pieces to contend for a title. First, we got Amar’e and then Melo, one of the best players and finishers in the game. Second, we needed a big man and we got one of the best in Tyson Chandler. Third, we needed a point guard and now we have that with Jeremy Lin and Baron Davis, who should be back after the all-star break. Finally, we picked up a player who can fit perfectly in D’Antoni’s system and can open the floor for them, hitting the three pointers and that’s, JR Smith. I’m looking forward to seeing them all playing together. The Knicks are back!
