Last night your New York Knicks put out a great effort and got a huge win against the streaking Philadelphia 76ers.
The Knicks got out to an early lead and despite a late game push by the Sixers, they held on for the victory.
We outlined the importance of the Knicks star players in our game preview yesterday, and the Knicks rode those stars all the way to victory. Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony combined for 47 points and 19 rebounds, with Tyson Chandler also pitching in 13 rebounds a block.
The 76ers were playing on the third night of a back-to-back-to-back and looked sluggish early on. However, by the time they seemed to get things going, it was too late and the Knicks thwarted their late game rally.
Tonight New York is looking to carry over last night’s success against a Memphis Grizzlies team that has been ravaged by injuries of late. Both Darrel Arthur and All-Star power forward Zach Randolph are out for the Grizz, leaving their front line dangerously thin.
Again tonight, the key to success against the Grizzlies will be how well the Knicks utilize Carmelo Anthony, and to a larger degree Amar’e Stoudemire. Amar’e will likely be matched up with Mo Speights, a player that is not used to starting and guarding elite forwards such as Stoudemire. Another key to Knicks success tonight will be to what degree Tyson Chandler can neutralize Marc Gasol; if Chandler can do a solid job guarding him straight up, as well as keeping him off of the boards, the Knicks will do a great deal of damage to one of the Grizzlies main sources of scoring and rebounding.
It will also be crucial for the Knicks to get out to another good start. The Grizzlies aren’t as deep as the Sixers, but they have a couple of guys in O.J Mayo and Dante Cunningham that have been solid contributors off of the bench this season. If the Knicks can get off to a good start and bury the Grizzlies early, that should be enough to ensure a victory for the New York Knicks.
