According to ESPN.com rookie point guard Iman Shumpert will be out 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL. Shumpert suffered the injury during the Knicks 106-104 victory over the Boston Celtics on Christmas day.
The Injury is an unfortunate blow to the Knicks offense, which had struggeled to find someone to create off of the dribble without Carmelo Anthony in the game.
Shumpert had 11 points in 22 minutes on Sunday and had proved to be a very dynamic offensive player; penetrating the Celtics defense and reaching the rim on a number of occasions. Without Shumpert, the Knicks are going to be thin at the point guard spot, and will have to rely on veteran Mike Bibby(yikes!) to provide meaningful minutes backing up starter Toney Douglas.
The Shumpert injury may also open up more minutes for other Knicks’ wings like Bill Walker, who was impressive Sunday on the defensive end of the floor.
