Knick-els: All-Star Info & Rookie Of The Month

New York Knick Landry Fields may have been losing minutes lately, but he just won the NBA’s Eastern Conference Rookie Of The Month award for December. It’s unclear if his playing time has decreased because he’s having issues or if it’s just because the bench players (Toney Douglas, Shawne Williams & Bill Walker) have improved.

Speaking of awards, New Yorkers should be ashamed because the second round of All-Star votes have been tallied, and other cities are clearly voting more for their players than we’ve been doing. We may be chanting MVP every time Amar’e Stoudmire shoots free throws, but not enough of us have been voting to make him an All-Star starter.  He’s currently third in Eastern Conference Forwards, with only the top two getting the nod.  He has 637,486 votes, behind understandably LeBron James (969,459) but unforgivably also about 75,000 behind Boston’s Kevin Garnett (712,555).

Perhaps even more disappointing is the showing for Raymond Felton, who while he may not be one of the two best guards in the East, he definitely should be far higher than his current 8th place.  Sure, fine, let Dwayne Wade, Rajon Rondo and Derrick Rose be head and shoulders above the rest up top.  However, it’s shameful that he’s behind Ray Allen (having only an average year), John Wall (injured for large chunks of the season already), Gilbert Arenas (having a mediocre season as a bench player for both Washington and now Orlando) and Brandon Jennings (also injured, but shooting an awful percentage and his team the Milwaukee Bucks has a worse record than the Knicks).

So get out there and vote!  Yes, it ain’t as important as voting in our governmental elections, but the good thing is that you can vote again every day!  Let’s get Amar’e starting and give Felty a great showing.
