That's 3 out of your 5 starters on a team that doesn't go deep. And even their bench had to deal with injuries to Lou Amundson and Ekpe Udoh, who both seem like likely solid contributors. I don't think the new owners are actually fairly savvy (one of 'em used to be part of the Celtics ownership group) so they aren't just looking to be splashy and bring in a big name just to bring in a big name. They'll be patient and let Smart show what he can do. Plus the Warriors looked good at the beginning when everyone was relatively healthy. So I think he gets a bit of a pass until the summer at least.
