New York will dump Eddy Curry, but if they have to give up say Landry Fields, that's too steep for the Knicks and losing your starting shooting guard to send Gallnari to the bench doesn't improve the Knicks either. But that's a big "if." And Melo was already considered a definite max player before the Knicks and Nets started going after him, so I don't agree that we've inflated his market value. Now our claims of being willing to pay Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay the max definitely DID inflate their market value. Too bad for the Hawks and Grizz, eh? If we know that Denver won’t trade Melo away, then, yes, it’s definitely the smart move.

And Melo was already considered a definite max player before the Knicks and Nets started going after him, so I don’t agree that we’ve inflated his market value. The smart move would be wait until free agency, sign Carmelo and then decide if you need to move Danilo Gallnari and/or Anthony Randolph to avoid the jam at small forward and use those players to try and get something else to help the team.
