Curry's contract is only for about $11 million, while 'Melo will get $16+ mill so he'd have to take a sizable paycut. And if we're already paying max to say Amare & JJ, ain't no way that 'Melo would take less than both of 'em.

Also, Shaq is a far better offensive player than Haywood, so he only sorta worked in their system 'cuz they ran through the offense through him. However, once Phoenix got rid of him and this year got a player in Channing Frye who can hit from distance, the system worked much more smoothly and the team went from missing the playoffs to the #2 seed. I mean, I'm with you, I'd love to have Haywood, and I do think he could work in the system if given a chance. I just don't think that D'Antoni will give him a chance, and that when Walsh talks to him about potential free agents, D'Antoni won't be too high on Haywood. Hopefully I'm wrong 'cuz I think Haywood would be a better foundation piece than say Joe Johnson (assuming we'd pay a reasonable price for Haywood and a most-likely-too-high price for JJ).

Walsh is going to give out two max contracts this summer, whether deserved or not and we can still sign to max free agents this summer and still push for melo next summer if we hold onto Curry's expiring.

And a common misconception about D'Antoni is that his system doesn't exactly center around defense, well that's not really true. Haywood is able to move for a big man and if Shaq and work in this system, so can Haywood.

Chase,

I don't see Walsh just going for two max contracts no matter what, 'cuz as Stan mentioned (& you have in the past), we might want to keep our options open for Carmelo in 2011 if we strike out this summer. And Joe played himself out of a max contract. We might end up with him and A'mare, but I think Walsh would probably offer JJ a bit less than max money.

And I too would love Haywood, but like I think I might've written a while ago, I'm not sure he's a D'Antoni-type player (meaning the dude actually plays defense rather than offense), which could hurt our chances of Walsh deciding to pursue him. Like we saw the poor man's version of this last season when we acquired Darko who could've helped a bit defensively, but offensively was a huge liability (& thus never saw any playing time). But I think he's great. And I wouldn't be surprised if a ton of teams made a run at him.

I agree with most of what you said except for just coming away with Bosh this summer. We're going to use two max contracts no matter what and I'm 99% sure Bosh is signing wherever Wade or Lebron go.

So if we can't lure Lebron or Wade I see us ending up with Amare and Joe this summer.

I REALLY want Haywood like you've mentioned and really hope Walsh can bring him in.

Good comment!

I'd like Bosh with either of those 2 players but in truth I don't think the Knicks will get Wade or Lebron. I think we sign Bosh and we will have to wait for next year to get Carmello Anthony. Getting Tony Parker is also something I can see happening but only in 2011 as a FA not as a trade this year, but then I think a trade with Minnesota for one of their PGs would better serve the Knicks in the long run. Also I'd like to see a shotblocking center like Dallas' Brendan Haywood (a NYC product)who is also a FA this year. Also remember that Eddy curry comes off the books next year. Don't think 1 year fix, think 2 year fix that will keep the Knicks good for 5 years or so when we have draft picks again.
