Wow, I'm pretty impressed that Cuban just came out and said they'd go after LeBron without fear of the tampering rule. Granted the rule's dumb, but like never once has Donnie Walsh uttered that the goal is to get LeBron. Then again, Cuban's never seemed too concerned about getting fined, so it shouldn't be too surprising.

Jimi,

I think you're right, in that Dallas is in a weird limbo where perhaps even a Joe Johnson might not help. However, LeBron-sweepstakes-wise I wonder if --similar to how it hurts NY & NY that they suck -- if it hurts that you guys are too good. Like even though the Mavs flamed out in the first round, before the playoffs began probably more people would've believed they could make the Conference Finals than the Suns or Celtics. Like does LeBron really just want to be the final piece that puts a team over the top, or does he want to be the reason they're there too (the way he would if say he joined the Bulls)?

I'm also uncertain where Chris Bosh's mindset is and if he'd even want to go to Dallas because earlier in the season he stated how he felt he could/should be the centerpiece of a championship team and didn't want to play second fiddle. However, this was when the Raps were looking good. Now that he didn't even make it into the playoff picture, perhaps he'd be more willing to go to Dallas to be a "piece" or to say Miami or New York to be Wade or LeBron's "sidekick."

Too many variables to know, but too many wonderful possibilities to not waste time thinking about 'em.

As a Dallas fan, I have the same sentiments as far as believing that Cuban will pursue free agency in a big way this off season after what happened w/ San Antonio. But, I really don't think we can land Lebron, maybe I don't want to be too optimistic about it. I'm thinking its more reasonable that we land Chris Bosh. (while secretly crossing my fingers and praying for Lebron or D-Wade)

But even Bosh is a stretch, and perhaps, as you mentioned, Joe Johnson would be more reasonable (someone to do what Josh Howard/Caron Butler was supposed to do for us.) But is that enough, I don't think that would even be enough for us to get past LA.

All of that said, I think Dallas is a great fit for Lebron. Chicago has D Rose and I keep hearing his play style is too similar to Lebrons. And like you're saying two big stars in Miami might hurt egos in the long run, New Jersey seems a possibility perhaps just because they have nowhere to go but up. But thats because they only won like what was it 11 games!?!

I think that NY would put him a situation too similar to Cleveland, waiting too long to build a cast of characters that might/hopefully/almost get him to the title.

All of this said, I think its still a dream scenario for Dallas. I'd rather just look forward to football season than have my head in the clouds believing we could actually land Lebron.

Dang, Tim & Db, are the egos really that fragile for you Cleveland fans? Clearly I've hit a nerve, 'cuz I doubt y'all would get so angry if I wrote that Boobie Gibson might leave.

That said, I could probably use a bath and a woman. And don't knock crack. All the cool kids are doing it these days.
