*Even the fat, slow athletes can whup us in a foot race. Through the miracle of technology, we can compare a reporter’s speed versus guys at the NFL Draft Combine:
After my post the other week about why I was glad Gilbert Arenas didn’t get any jail time, it turns out he’s gonna go to the slammer after all. ESPN.com reports:
Gilbert Arenas avoided a jail sentence, but he’ll still have to spend two days behind bars.
Arenas was sentenced last month to 30 days in a halfway house for bringing guns into the Wizards locker room.
[...] People assigned to the halfway house as part of their probation must first report to the county jail for medical screening and classification. In addition, [...] the department wants them “to see a jail and understand what they have avoided.”
The inductees include Jerry Buss, Cynthia Cooper, Bob Hurley, Sr., Karl Malone and Scottie Pippen, along with two celebrated teams: the 1960 USA Men’s Olympic team and the 1992 USA Basketball “Dream Team.” The Class of 2010 also includes three legendary players: Dennis Johnson, Gus Johnson and international star Maciel “Ubiratan” Pereira, all of whom will be honored posthumously.
One interesting thing was that in earlier reports, the phenomenal woman’s player Cynthia Cooper was referred to a Cynthia Cooper-Dyke. How can you hyphenate your name if your hubby’s last name is Dyke? Particularly if you play women’s basketball. I’m glad they’re not inducting her under that name, not just ‘cuz of what the name is but because it’d just be odd to have her under a different name. I don’t believe women have to take their husband’s name when they get married, especially when they’ve already established themselves in their career under their original name. I don’t want, like, Angelina Pitt (and I definitely don’t want Angelina Fox-Pitt ‘cuz that sounds like a hunter’s trap not a sexy actress).
Lastly, here are some dudes from a site called Dude Perfect, hitting some crazy basketball shots. They’re real. The short bearded guy (who’s the best) apparently was a high school quarterback. He’s got mad skillzzzz.
