Between Boozer’s injuries, inconsistency and desire for the big payday, he’s gonna go for the longest contract he can get (5 years as a free agent or 6 years if he stays with the Jazz or does a sign-and-trade). So if we got him, he wouldn’t be able to leave for 5 or 6 years. Though that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t pull a Vince Carter on us and start getting hurt all the time and playing half-assed until we trade him…

Kendall, I’m not certain whether I consider JJ an elite player either. I’ve seen times where he’s been insanely dominant, like a couple of years ago in the first round of the playoffs when people expected the Hawks to get swept by the Celtics. Does he seem to disappear ‘cuz he’s inconsistent or ‘cuz he’s trying to get his now-improved teammates more involved? I don’t know. But calling him elite is certainly wrong as one could probably think of 20 other players you’d rather have instead of him.

As for D’Antoni and a defensive coach, I’d love that, but it’d only work if D’Antoni’s willing to go along with that coach’s ideas. When he was in Phoenix he bristled when Steve Kerr tried to get the team to go in a more defensive direction.

I don’t really consider Joe Johnson an elite player.I mean sometimes you don’t even know he’s in the game.I’ve seen games where the whole quarter I did’nt know he was on the floor…. D’Antoni has a good offensive rep and needs a good defense coach by his side.

I was indeed there too. I do love the Clips, but the Knicks are my boys. And besides it’s in the Clips’ best interest to lose as many games as possible now and improve their draft pick (versus the Knicks traded their pick away so they might as well win).

Are you saying you specifically think Walsh & D’Antoni will be the cause that NY can’t lure the top free agents? ‘Cuz I don’t agree with that. They’ve both got good reps in the league (although if D’Antoni can’t get wins next year with a hopefully better roster then his rep’s gonna plummet quick). I mean I don’t think we’re gonna get LeBron or Wade either, but I think it’s more ‘cuz we don’t have a good nucleus of players to complement them.

Lastly, I think signing Boozer would end up haunting us more than letting Lee go. I’d love to keep Lee, but it’s not like I think he’s gonna explode and became an even better player once he leaves (like say Ariza and potentially Jordan Hill).

I have very little confidence in both Walsh & D’Antoni being able to lure two top tier free agents to the Big Apple. I also have a sneaking suspicion that NY is going to end up with Boozer & Felton next season…and without David Lee. What a letdown!

Letting Lee flee will haunt the Knicks for a decade. I saw him in person put up 29 & 10 (on the heels of his 37/20/10 game against GS) on YOUR Clippers Sunday night…were you at Staples Short White Boy?

East, I was the one who for some reason incorrectly thought (& wrote both here & in my write-up of their last game) that the Knicks were unbeaten against the Hawks this year. You were right that they’d won 3 games, but the teams played 4 times this year already (&the Hawks won that first game). However, as you state, it’s still probably not too comforting to Hawk fans to say “we’ve only lost 75% of the time to the Knicks.”

And I love your tallest midget line.

I didn’t say the Knicks beat the Hawks everytime they played them this year. So Atlanta winning 1 out of 3 times this year against the Knicks I guess sounds better than “the Knicks beat Atlanta 3 times this year”. What difference does it make. When you look at both rosters, the Hawks should never lose to the Knicks. And considering that the last lost was after the trade deadline in which they traded Jeffries-their best defender (is that like being the tallest midgit in the circus).

I don’t mean to sell it short. I still feel like Joe’s best bet is with Atlanta. I know the Hawks can offer the most money but I ultimately think that someone else will offer more. That will put the ball in Joe’s court.

I thought I read somewhere that the Bulls were one of the teams that could bring in two max free agents? I could be wrong.

D’oh, my bad forgetting about that loss! I dunno why I thought the Knicks had only played the Hawks three times this season. I guess the Knicks have lost so many times this year it’s hard to keep track of ‘em all!

I don’t think Joe even knows what’s going to happen to Joe. I have trouble envisioning the Chicago thing though ‘cuz Chi-town doesn’t have enough $ for two max (or near max) players. Only NY, Miami, and possibly NJ have that sorta room. If the Bulls get Bosh, Joe would have to take a teeny, tiny salary, which seems unlikely ‘cuz it ain’t like Chicago would suddenly become the team to beat. Even if the Bulls added Bosh, I don’t necessarily think they’re much better than Atlanta.

I think you’re selling yourself short on Atlanta’s ability to retain JJ. They may not give him the max, but they’ve already shown they’ll give him near-max.

Ok you guys win by pointing out that the Knicks did in fact beat the Hawks 3 times. However, the two teams played 4 times this season. The Hawks took the first game on Nov 11th and then lost on Dec 4th, Jan 1st, and Mar 8th. So look it up.

No in reality no one really knows what is going to happen with Joe. I do believe that the Hawks will be the team that won’t offer him the most money. I don’t see him coming to New York unless he gets a max offer. Chicago is the team that worries me. If they can’t lure D-Wade but could possibly get Bosh. That would be an attractive setting for someone like Joe depending on the offer they make to him.

Love the site. Love the redesign. Keep up the good work. Glad we don’t play the Knicks anymore this year.

At the trade deadline there were indeed reports saying Joe was in fact frustrated that the team wasn’t trying to acquire players like Amare Stoudamire & Antawn Jamison. And in a recent ESPN article, Chris Sheriden wrote that JJ said he’d be willing to sacrifice $ to go to NY & play w/LeBron. He’s also said that he doesn’t want to start all over again with a team on the bottom like he did with the Hawks, so just throwing the max at him won’t get him to NYC. As you said, the Hawks have a much better core, so even max money won’t be enough to get Joe to come and play alongside just David Lee. Plus the Hawks offered Joe $60 mill extension for 4 years last summer (which he rejected), so it’s not like he can’t get near max money from them too. The only thing that’ll really sway him to the Knicks’ side is LeBron, and alas I don’t think the King’s coming to the Big Apple.

I don’t think Joe was frustrated because the Hawks didn’t do anything at the deadline. While it is true Bibby is getting older the Knicks aren’t getting LeBron and Joe. Joe is only coming if you throw the absolute max money you can at him. Even then the Hawks will probably be in better shape than the Knicks as far as core players go. I’m thinking the only scenario the Knicks have is if they do indeed miss out on the biggest names and offer Joe the max. Were he to accept David Lee would be the biggest name for you to add along side.
