Gallinari was the right pick

by 2008-2009 Season

Well after you spit out your coffee or whatever you were drinking after reading the title of my latest post, will you at least hear me out? I mean, there has to be some logic somewhere in my deranged mind, right?

Anyway, the reason I even brought this up was to silence the doubters in Gallinari’s abilities. Well, to begin let’s just take a look at the positives and then make our way down to his setbacks. Gallinari is a pure shooter and D’Antoni has already backed him in his shooting ability even to say he’s one of the best, if not the best on the team. Gallinari can shoot it from anywhere on the court and there is always a good chance he’s going to sink it. Gallinari is 6’10 and roughly 225 lbs. His height is a huge asset in the post, but his little frame could be a problem against the bigger guys in the East like Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand (haha), and Dwight Howard. There is speculation that Gallinari will eventually work his way into the starting role at the power forward position, which will certainly give the Knicks help in their low post rotations. David Lee now has scoring help in the post, but more importantly Gallinari will bring power forwards to the perimeter to keep Gallinari in check. This will give Lee more 1 on 1 match ups and certainly give the Knicks more low post baskets, but also on the perimter if the power forwards can’t make it to put a hand in Gallinari’s face.

Now, we all know Gallinari has a bad back, but for how long? Well, Gallinari is certainly still in the process of getting back to 100%, but this certainly going to keep holding down his minutes before he can be inserted in the starting lineup, so Knicks fans be prepared to keep seeing Larry Hughes remain in the starting rotation for a while. There is no need to rush Gallinari as the Knicks aren’t serious contenders  at the moment and risking a serious injury is just absurd.

Gallinari will get to 100% over time, but until then expect to keep seeing him getting posted up inside and giving up a lot of baskets. However, over time people will start to realize how great of a pick Gallinari was and how big of a piece he is to the Knicks future success.
